First, thanks for providing this wonderful, informative service!
We are in desperate need of a new mattress.
Our last one was a queen Spring Air that sagged in the middle within months, so we're feeling very gun shy about this purchase.
We've determined to go with a king-sized, but we are unsure what type of mattress is the best for both of us - a king-sized spring mattress, two XL twin spring-types pushed together?
Here are all of our issues. Would you make a suggestion for us based on these and our budget of up to about $2000?
1. Hubby has a sleep disorder called Periodic Limb Movement Disorder that often shakes the whole bed - every 30 seconds.
He takes meds that help some, but doesn't completely get rid of the problem.
This often results in our sleeping in separate rooms.
We're considering getting 2 XL twins and putting them together so that hubby's thrashing around would be isolated to his own bed.
Hubby will go along with that if it's the best choice, but he prefers that we get a king.
That has me wondering about a Simmons, since it absorbs motion.
I've also wondered if the pocketed coils in other brands would be a good choice to stop motion transfer.
2. Hubby sometimes sleeps on stomach, sometimes side.
3. I sleep on my side, and often have lower back pain due to osteoarthritis.
I also often have hip pain due to bursitis, and I have mild scoliosis - a 10-degree curve.
It does not cause me any pain at all.
4. I'd like to avoid a pillowtop after seeing the body impressions in my parents' pillowtop. I'd rather buy a separate latex topper, like the ones you recommend.
5. We both tend to like a mattress that's not overly soft, but not hard. We are average in height and weight.
Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated!

The Simmons Beautyrest is the best name brand innerspring on the market for promoting good contouring support and reducing motion transfer...better than other pocketed coils because of the
differences in construction. There's a difference between pocketed coil systems.
In the Beautyrests, the coils move independently from one another because the pockets are heat sealed near the center.
In other name brand pocketed coil systems, the pockets are heat sealed at the top and bottom, which affect the movement of the surrounding coils.
The king will make a difference over the queen, in terms of motion transfer.
However, a king mattress will produce more lateral movement than 2 twin xl.
That difference is not so great in a Beautyrest, as in most other brands.
Also, the individually pocketed coils, moving independently from one another, will maintain the natural alignment of your spine.
All that being said, that's not all there is to it.
You will also need an EverEden all natural 2" soft Talalay Latex Mattress Topper.
The topper will do a number of things for you and is as important for the mattress itself.
Compared to any other type of foam, latex is more comfortable and more resilient.
It will add an extra layer of motion absorption.
It will cushion your hip and relive that pressure point.
It will ease the pain from the osteoarthritis.
It relaxes your muscles so that you move less and sleep deeper.
As a side benefit, the latex topper absorbs much of your body weight.
The mattress lasts twice as long as it normally would on its own.
