My husband is 6" 216-225 & I am 5'3 195-210.

We both wake up with severe back pain and sides hurting... I know I need something to feel like I am being supported.

My husband and I are both side sleepers. I also have sleep apnea... I am thinking something firmer will support us more. Our mattress now says it is made by Sealy... It has latex foam 29%, spring unit, polyurethane foam 37%, polyester fiber 21%. Maybe this gives you an idea what we have now.. It is so uncomfortable.. With no support. I wake up with hands and arms numb, and with neck pain. It feel very soft so would a firmer topper help instead if the soft you suggested until we get a firmer mattress . I want a new mattress and sleep good in hotels, but I want what you suggest would be right. Do you deliver to Mississippi.

You're right about what you need.

Unfortunately, a firm latex topper on a soft mattress is the opposite of what you need.

The support is supposed to be firm and the surface is supposed to be soft....not the other way around.

I realize it would be nice to get away with the cost of a topper for the time being, but you'd just be throwing good money after bad.

The least expensive way out of this, is with the Wolf Adrian mattress. The coil unit is very strong...strong enough to hold the two of you and provide excellent support.

It's already upholstered with latex, so it won't sag and latex resists body impressions.

The only reason for getting a latex topper, at that point, is if you wanted the surface to be softer.

What you have, can't be very old. You should be able to continue to use the boxspring from that mattress.

Hi Pete,

Sorry for so many questions.

I just need the mattress for 999? Not the mattress and foundation? Ours are about 3 years old... but we have had it in storage and moved several times. 

Do you delivery to Mississippi. Would you say this is as comfortable as a Hampton inn bed? 

Husband will divorce me if we buy another sorry mattress. Is this a two sided mattress and will last awhile?

The mattress only is all you need. Your bxosprings are in like new condition.

This is a much higher quality mattress than what you have now. The coil unit is much stronger and only latex is used for the upholstery.

It has no poly foam to compress...which it does easily.

Scoliosis and severe back pain, Reverie Dream System Latex Mattress & Adjustable Bed Base

Last year (2012) I underwent scoliosis correction surgery where they fused my whole thoracic spine (10 vertebrae). My scoliosis situation is a little different in the sense that most people with scoliosis only have one curve, as to where I had 3. Cervical/thoracic/lumbar. My lumbar was not corrected or fused but I do have DDD. I have severe pain and inflammation each day and I do not sleep through out the night on my current pillow top mattress which is pretty old and as  I read you say pillow tops do not hold up for very long...I purchased a topper for my bed but feel it rolls us to the middle of the bed.

Now I have the needs listed above but I also have to accommodate my husband who has sleep apnea...would you suggest something like a sleep number where we can each adjust to our own needs? My needs fluctuate depending on the pain and inflammation level. Please help any advice on a mattress before I start the process of buying would be very helpful.

Mattress Set for Overweight Individual‏

I need your help and advice on a mattress. I'm in need of a Queen size mattress set

 for myself I'm overweight at 230 lbs, 5' 9'' and mid 40's. I currently wake up, with

I have been to so many mattress stores, and I'm just tired of going in and laying on 

mattresses for 15min. and really can't get comfortable on them. With all my issues, it

 has been suggested to me to get a foam mattress or a fim pillow top. I don't like the foam

 mattresses or soft mattresses I feel as if I'm going to sink and makes my back disc slip.

 I like firm, but the "mattress shops" say not to get a firm. What should I do? If you could 

help suggest the best mattress for me I would greatly appreciate it.

A firm mattress is exactly what is required to support the weight of an overweight 

individual, especially one with back problems. The closest you came to good advice

 was the firm pillowtop....close, but no cigar. Pillowtops lose their shape quickly, making

 any pillowtop a poor choice for value and long term comfort.

Best solution for support and comfort is the Stearns & Foster Heidi in luxury firm,

Stearns & Foster Adele Ultra Firm mattress, latex topper‏

Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress, back, neck and hip pain‏

None of your problems get better with age, so I'm particularly sorry to hear that you have all this at such a young age.
Let me start with the problems that a mattress doesn't help. For me, my worst pain is in my neck and it's not my wife. It's the arthritis. I have tried everything. A pillow is helpful in this, but they wear out so quickly, especially if you're a hot head like me and perspire at night. The moisture will beak down most materials. Latex pillows last the longest. My wife, who also has neck pain, loves her latex pillow. I find it too thick to keep my head properly aligned with my spine...which is an important factor in minimizing that pain. Three "Extra Strength Excedrin" works in about 20 minutes. But for some, it causes stomach upset. As recent residents of California, we found something that works fast and provides pain relief that lasts a long time. If you have access to medical marijuana, they make a salve that you rub into the affected area. The pain is almost immediately and there are no side effects. That is to say, it doesn't make you high. It just works and works well.
Sleep Apnea is another issue we have in common. I too, had a cpap machine. It was the most annoying thing, trying to sleep with that mask strapped to my face. Is occurred to me that the only person really suffering from it, was my wife. So, I got her ear plugs and got rid of the machine.
You might try sleeping on a slight incline. That will also help.
Neither of you have a weight concern, so your choices for a mattress are greater.
However, the key to comfort that won't quit on you in a short couple of years, is latex. By adding a 2" soft latex topper to a reasonably firm, well made, basic mattress, you can have all the comfort and support you can want or need...and have it provide them long term.
If going with a Simmons model, plush/firm is definitely the way to go. You can't go wrong with a soft latex topper on any Simmons plush/firm model...a comfort choice that is available at any level in their line.
If money isn't a great concern, you might get the one we have at home...the Beautyrest Black Ansleigh in plush/firm. I find it to be perfectly comfortable just the way it comes. My wife, on the other hand, is more shapely and has a sore hip. With the 2" soft latex topper is feels like a million bucks....just an incredibly comfortable feel without sacrificing the firm underlying support.
Quality is always your best value.

Sleep Apnea, Stearns & Foster Mattress‏, Latex Topper

We bought a stearns and foster and it doesn't work for my husband.  He has sleep apnea and shoulder pain and numbness. He has been sleeping in a lazyboy in front of the tv. He tried a Dr. prescribed machine for oxygen; didn't like it ; won't do it.  He complains about being sleep deprived and gets sick often. He also likes tobacco and beer but is not fat. It hasn't mattered what hours he worked he has always been difficult about his sleep patterns. It makes me unhappy too as I constantly find I have to tiptoe around and can't do what I need to do when I want to. Currently, sleep here is mostly late to bed, early to rise and nap 3 times a day. More like round the clock napping at least when at home. Complaints abound. I need to sleep far enough away from him as he can be heard snoring from one end of the upstairs to the other. He complains that the way I want to sleep doesn't suit him either. He wants a tv on all night and day and I don't. To get to the point I am considering rolling towels to incline the bed for the snoring and adding a foam topper to make it softer as he thinks that would help his shoulder. Maybe a couple air cleaning houseplants and see if he will go to white noise and constant very dim light. I need a good comfortable small bed to get into another room far enough away and white noise to cover the snoring. What options of low cost can you recommend?

I feel ya!...so to speak. I too, have sleep apnea and difficulty falling asleep.
Before I get into creative, inexpensive ways to address your problem, let me tell you about my problem. You may find this part of it helpful.
My mattress is very comfortable and supportive and I sleep with no pain, even though I have plenty of problems with my discs and some arthritis. Still, even with the best mattress on the market, I have a hard time falling asleep. Having the TV on low volume is sometimes helpful, but the commercials are louder and they wake me up. My real problem is that I can't stop thinking about stuff. And the really maddening part is that it's sometimes stuff that is meaningless to me. My neurologist came up with a solution that usually works. Xanax. It's like flipping a switch. 20 minutes later, my mind shuts off and I go to sleep. I have no ill effects from it. It's something to ask your doctor about.
 
As for your immediate, inexpensive, creative solution....my specialty, by the way.
The adjustable bed base I use, helps a lot with the snoring. It only takes a slight elevation to reduce the effects of the apnea.
You can accomplish the same thing by putting something in-between the mattress and boxspring at the head of the bed. For my mother, who had a hernia of some sort that benefited from the same solution, he built a thin wedge made of wood. The towels solution is a workable one, but you would likely need a good number of them to pull that off.
A soft latex topper will take care of his surface comfort issues....and your biggest expense for this project.

Personally, I sleep better without the white noise...no noise and completely dark works best for me. To that end, I often use earplugs. They are soft round disks you can buy at any pharmacy. My wife snores too.
 
Ultimately, for you, as with my parents, retiring to separate rooms was the only workable solution to get a decent night's sleep. 
He slept cold, she slept hot and they both snored.
It's always considered a last resort. I know I would sleep better with the whole bed to myself, but am not yet willing to sacrifice the comfort of my wife's company...so, we work around our differences. She turns on her side, sticks her butt half way across my side of the bed and I take a Xanax. 
Why not get a king size, you may ask. We had a king and it works for that problem, but creates others...like having to call her on her cell phone to talk to her because she seems so far away. Anyway, you do whatever works. Certain foods, eating late, smoking, alcohol and physical ailments all play a part in how well or how poorly we sleep. 
The right mattress is only part of the bigger picture.
 
Here is a link to a reasonably priced mattress for you. It uses an idividually pocketed coil system with firm, contouring support and has a comfortable sleeping surface.
Even though it is inexpensive, it is well made and is delivered free anywhere in the continental US.

Fibromyalgia, Adjustable Bed with an All Latex Foam Mattress

 

 

Have had tempurpedic for over 15 years. It was good for a short while but it started sagging quickly and is too hot for my husband. 
He is 6'3", has sleep apnea, and had back surgery 20 years ago - has some residual issues and also some joint pain. I am 5'4 145 lbs with fibromyalgia, knees,

"Fast" puts you at a disadvantage. It causes you to make a hurried decision, which almost always ends up in a costly mistake.

An adjustable bed is a wonderful thing to have...especially for sleep Apnea. It also makes the bedroom a great place to hang out.

Many people looking for a luxury mattress, will find no greater luxury than an adjustable bed.
