Hi Dan,

We have the Adalee by the same name. It's a fine choice.

The padding in both lines is, essentially, the same. The black line uses a much stronger, triple strand coil in half, (every other row)....a good buy for the small difference in price.

My wife and I are heavier and we chose the Black Ansleigh in plush/firm....to which, we added a 2" latex topper. It's the topper that makes the difference in having a sleep system that doesn't sag and minimizes even body impressions over years.

You want to be careful not to go too far to the soft side. Reasonably soft is ok. Too soft causes back pain and offers poor performance.

Simmons Beautyrest Black mattress from Macy's "Kameryn"‏

First of all, thank you so much for taking the time to call me back the other day.  To refresh your memory, I was the one that told you that I have fibromyalgia, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, tons of arthritis, and a possible pinched nerve in my leg.  We bought the Tempurpedic mattress, the supreme cloud, or something like that and initially, I felt great and thought I had purchased the most wonderful mattress on earth.  It has gone downhill from there and you told me to go to Macy's and look at the above mattress in the subject line.

Upon going there, a very nice man who said he too has been in the "mattress business" for 20+ years and has a daughter who has back problems, said yes, it is a very nice mattress, but he thought two other lines might be better for someone who has the issues I do.  They were:

1)  A mattress called True Energy by Simmons, which I believe was a latex mattress...he said it is firm, but also soft enough not to cause other issues

2)  He mentioned a bed called villa lucia cushion firm by Stearns and Foster

My husband could not go with me so we will have to go again over the weekend to have him try these out.  The man said you were absolutely correct about the Beautyrest Black, but he still thinks with all of my problems either of the above numbered ones were best.  He said that the coils in it are so heavy it might push up on my body too much. I told him that I had never talked with anyone who knew so much and was so helpful and I would run this by you first.  My husband and I felt the Tempur-pedic was great in the store, so we am afraid to make a choice unless we let someone like you put in your two cents worth.

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time.  It means the world to someone who, seriously, doesn't have a clue as to what to do.  My husband thanks you too!!!

Not long ago, I went shopping for a mattress at JCPenny. I was greeted by an older gentleman who was assisted by another older gentleman when my questions became too difficult.

"More than 50 years in the business between them", was what they said to me...a few times.

When it came to specifics and specifications, every answer was incorrect. They just made something up...a common practice for salesmen and something they had been doing for a total of 50+ years.

The Villa Lucia is a terrible choice. It's a poly foam mattress with a little bit of latex.

The TruEnergy is well made, but for the small difference in price, the Simmons Beautyrest Black Ansleigh mattress in plush/firm I recommended to you is, by far, a better buy....a best buy.

Stearns and Foster Sonoma pillowtop mattress

We hope you can give us some guidance as we purchased a Sealy Optimum Inspiration from Mattress Barn. We don't like it and plan to return it.
This foam mattress is too hard; my arms fall asleep and I wake up with a backache each day. My husband just plain hates it. We've had it for 8 weeks, which should be time for it to soften. 
A local store carries a Stearns and Foster Sonoma pillow top, which is very comfortable (in the store). I zeroed in on this mattress because it supposedly has "smart latex" in the pillow top. However, I, of course can't get an accurate review on it because of all the names of mattresses.
What do you know about this Sonoma mattress? Will the pillow top, like others I've read about, break down quickly?

Hi Peggy,

This is a prime example of the mis-information that you get from undertrained sales people.

The latex is not in the pillowtop. The pillowtop is filled with poly foam.

The layer of latex is just above the coils and nowhere near the top.

Opt for that same mattress in a plush tight top and you will spare yourself the fate of all the other pillowtop owners.

Thanks for the quick response Pete. Today, we looked again and my husband loves the Simmons Tru Energy Plush Sallie (Yvette). We are 73 and 68 years old, normal size, and he really wants a soft feel. The salesman says this is the only pillowtop that won't sag because it has NXG foam in the pillowtop. I haven't found reviews on this mattress, maybe because the Simmons Recharge System is new? My head is spinning with all the research! We just can't justify spending all this money on a king mattress, then $449 more on a topper!

Pete,

I'm looking at the Beautyrest Black Ansleigh and the True Energy Brielle. With your discounts and free box spring I want to order before the end of the week. Both are in the plush firm variety. 

Since the two are close in price which is the best value overall?

Do either of them sleep hot?

Which has better longevity? and does the memory foam effect performance?

we haven't been able to see either in person. is the plush-firm feel similar to the plush firm of the elite line? we have been able to see those in person.

Hi Tom,

All of the plush/firm models are similar in over-all feel.

The Black models use a triple strand wire for half the coils. The TruEnergy are all single strand.

This triple strand "Cable Coil" is the strongest available. For the small difference in price, the Ansleigh makes the most sense. It what my wife and I sleep on.

The small amount of memory foam used is "Next Generation" memory foam. It far more resilient and far less temperature sensitive than regular memory foam. It does not sleep hot.

Buying a "safe" mattress‏ with No Memory Foam

My husband and I have been looking at mattresses and I stumbled upon your site. Glad I did. We had placed an order yesterday for a Simmons Tru Energy Recharge Beautyrest Bryanna mattress set. It has the fancy coil system and all the memory foam and gel extras. We recently dumped our 4" Serta memory foam topper due to concerns regarding our health. When we contacted the company we purchased it from stating that we had concerns they told us to dump the topper and gave us a full refund even though it has been 2 years since the purchase. In fact, we cancelled our order for the above mentioned mattress b/c I'm not sure its the safe way to go. I read something you told someone else and it made a lot of sense. You suggested that they buy a nice firm mattress and buy a natural organic latex topper. I think that would make sense. I was told though that the plush pillow tops have foam in them as well and that actually ALL mattresses have foam. I would think that the kind of foam and amount of foam is different than those like the one we almost bought which has layers of it. Can you educate me on how mattresses are made or what's in them? I'd like to buy a certified safe, USA made,( USA products only inside mattress) and a truly organic, all natural, no harmful additives topper. Is there such a thing?? I've heard of the Certipur US seal and I'm not sure if that's legit or not. Which certifications should I look for? Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

It took me a little longer to answer your question because, quite frankly, I didn't know where to begin.
First off, I have to ask, Where do you live?" That's a rhetorical question, as I assume you live somewhere in the US. The real question is, "How did you come to believe that you would be able to buy such a thing in this country?" Mattresses are no different than the poisoned food you eat or polluted air you breath or the chemically treated water you drink. There are laws to protect you that have ended up protecting the scammers and snake oil salesmen....the advertisers and manufacturers. 
Rather than expose you to lousy products that allow you to decide not to buy them, you are exposed to lousy products that sound great, and have no choice but to buy them.
Truth in advertising laws turned into half-truths in advertising....accentuating the positive and eliminating the negative. 
We've all seen the disclaimers in the ads. They are there, (in the smallest of print), to warn you that what is actually in the add is not true.
Regardless of the law, there's a way around it. Truth in advertising laws are old ones and all of the loop holes have been found and exploited.
Memory foam is as bad for you as toys painted with lead or cadmium paint....as asbestos....as radioactive waste. Ok, maybe not that bad.
Now that we have done a reality check, let's talk mattresses. Regardless of what's in them or how badly you get screwed buying one, you still need something to sleep on.
If I had my way, you'd all be sleeping on all natural latex. But, latex is expensive. However, it's expensive because it's quality. You can spend as much or more on the crap they call, "memory foam". Have you noticed that there is no lack of commercials for memory foam? Do you know how expensive those commercials are? Is there any wonder about where the money comes from, to fund those commercials? 
It's a simple equasion. You take a piece of juck, make it look nice, invest some money in telling everyone how great it is and charge 4 to 5 times what it's worth. Because, if it costs more, it must be better....because they said it was good and they couldn't say it, if it weren't true. 
Have you ever actually called around to several companies for quotes on car insurance, including Geico in that shopping? I did. What I found was, Geico was consistantly $500
higher in price than most other companies...just the opposite of all that advertising I'm continually bombarded with.
