Replacing a Simmons Beautyrest Classic Mattress from 10 years ago.

Hi Johanna,
Much has changed in the past 10 years. Today's Beautyrests use memory foam, while there was none in your model from 10 years ago.
Memory foam is a product designed to shorten the life of mattresses, so that they need to be purchased more frequently.
Also, memory foam sleeps hot.
When buying a Beautyrest today, we recommend a luxury firm model and topping that with a latex topper.
The latex insulates you from the memory foam, sleeps cool, and extends the life of the mattress, so you can get 10 years out of it.

A queen mattress set to use in a second bedroom.

Hi Pete,

I am looking for a queen mattress set to use in a second bedroom. It will be used a lot, either by returning adult kids, a couple that comes on weekends or myself when hubby's  snoring gets to be too much. 

I can't spend a fortune on it but want it to be comfortable, (latex topper is OK) and last more than a year. We are average size people-5'7"#140 to 5'11"#170- stomach and side sleepers. 

I'm very disappointed in the Beautyrest Black Yvonne plush mattress we purchased for ourselves in 2011. We thought-new technology-no body impressions. 

But within a couple months valleys started happening. I have a 2" generic foam topper on it but the hill in the middle keeps getting worse, which drives me crazy. 

I'm afraid to purchase anything at this point as I feel like I'm wasting money whether you buy cheap or expensive. I would welcome and appreciate your honest advice and suggestions.

The plush Beautyrest models are all like that...less so with the firm models. 

Avoiding body impressions has always been the tricky part of this business. 

The only way to get comfort that doesn't compress is with a firm mattress and a soft latex topper. 

That way, you have the best of everything your body needs...firm support and comfortable sleeping surface that lasts for years.

For a guest room, the best options are: The Simmons Beautyrest Classic Broadway in luxury firm, to which, you will add a 2" soft Talalay Latex Topper.

Or, the Wolf Adara mattress, using the same type of coil system and already upholstered with all natural latex...so that you don't need a separate topper.

The Wolf Adara will be your better value, however, the delivery for this is via FedEx to the door. You will have to bring it in and set it up. The foundation for that mattress comes KD, but assembles easily.

The Simmons Beautyrest comes with white glove delivery, which includes delivery to the bedroom, set-up and removal of the old set.

Elderly, Fibromyalgia, Simmons Beautyrest Mattress and Soft Talalay Latex Topper.

My mother has fibromyalgia so she has a lot of body pain and my father is unsteady so when he gets out of bed he disturbs her with the movement thru the mattress. 

Both of them are on the small side.

I was thinking a pocketed coil would probably be best. 

As they are seniors money is tight so they need the best value. 

I thought that we could save money by only purchasing the mattress as the boxspring the have is only 4 years or so old.

But, my father is convinced that a boxspring has to be the one “specially designed” for that mattress. is this true?

Hi Scott,
An individually pocketed coil mattress is best for reducing motion transfer. Simmons does that better than others. 

Their pockets are attached to one another at the center, allowing for true independent movement of the coils...which also allows for better contouring, reliving more of the pressure points for your mom. 
For the past several years almost all boxsprings have changed to the more rigid "limited deflection" type, (steel vertical struts with a grid across the top that hold it all together. 

It's a cheap boxspring, but strong. Chances are, you don't need a new one.
What you will need, is a 2" layer of soft Talalay latex for your moms fibromyalgia.
You'll need a reasonably firm mattress for your dad to steady himself. Softening the surface with latex won't negate that firm support, but will add the comfort your mom needs. 

What you save on the boxspring, you can spend on the latex topper.

 Hi Liz,

First off, concerning yourself with recommendations that I might have made years ago, is a total waste of your time. The factories change their lines every couple of years. The specifications change...and so do my recommendations, based on those changes and whatever else may be available over the passing years. Also, you're going to want to avoid jumping to conclusions.

It's difficult to buy a mattress, especially when there is no one to trust.

And quite frankly, trusting your own senses is also a mistake.

If you limit yourself to only those mattresses that you can physically test, your choices will most be mattresses that are filled with the very deceptive memory foam.

Most stores are a sea of mattresses laden with memory foam, designed to be comfortable enough to "Make the Sale", but are basically worthless a very short time later...not to mention the chemical off gassing.

The vast majority of truly high quality mattresses are available only on line.

You seem to be between a rock and a hard place, when it comes to how you intend to base your decision.

Under these circumstances, my recommendation to you, is to go directly into doing your own research. Know the specification of the mattresses you're considering, understand what the materials are and base your decision on the quality of the materials being used. This way, you won't have to take anyone's word for anything.

And, I promise you, once you have a fuller understanding of what's what, you won't want to shop at any of the mattress stores.

Simmons Beautyrest Recharge mattress line including Aimee, Audrina, and Adriana.

I recently purchased the Aimee Plush of this Beautyrest line.  

I was under the impression it is the 'medium firm' of this three mattress collection. 

I know names change but I understood while choosing that softest to firmest was Audrina, Aimee, then Adriana.  

Is it less expensive to more expensive because of coils, the foam top or another "plush" component?  Or less firm to more firm making of the mattress?
I have only officially slept on the mattress for 10 to 12 days, maybe less... I'm told I am conditioning it. I'm conditioning all the foam it offers with my 5'2" 115 lb body.  This is not a thrilling process.
I'm torn because sleeping on this mattress hurts.  All over.  Almost worse than the old and really needed to be gotten rid of mattress I had before.  

I can exchange it but I'm not sure I should.  I tend to be happier on firmer mattresses when I get to sleep on them so, should I hold out or go with a softer firm?  All the foam components are me making me crazy.
Beyond the edge support how do they really help?  It certainly doesn't feel like they truly are doing what is advertised.  I don't get it.
Advise of an expert would be very, very, helpful.   Thank you.

Your size is both, an advantage and a disadvantage.
Being so light, it will take you a very long time to break in a new mattress.
The advantage is, that once broken in, it will take a long time to wear.
For immediate relief, and for surface comfort that will last for many years, add a 2" or 3" layer of soft Talalay Latex to the top of the mattress.
The latex does a number of things. Besides providing a comfortable sleeping surface, it insulates you from the memory foam in the mattress and provides a cool sleeping surface.
And, because the latex is so resilient, as to absorb all of your body weight, the mattress will last a whole lot longer than was intended by the manufacturer.
Adding a soft, all-natural Talalay Latex topper, provides a long term solution to your problem.
And, the latex toppers are maintenance free...just set it and forget it.

That post would have been a few years old...and things change rapidly in the mattress industry. Simmons no longer makes a Beautyrest with no memory foam.

We do, however, have many mattresses that contain no memory foam.

Among my favorites to recommend for children, are the Wolf Hybrid mattresses...the Adrian and Adara models.

Wolf is a very old company, (Established in 1873), and is the oldest mattress manufacturer in the country that has been owned by the same family all this time.

They produce high quality products from a single facility in the Midwest. THAT, and FedEx shipping is what helps to the cost down.

I prefer the Adrian for boys, as it is has stronger coil unit, which will become important as he gets older and bigger....and rougher, as boys tend to be.

The Adara model, I prefer for girls...becoming important when girls start to take on a more womanly shape. The contouring support will give better at the hip.

Both, are upholstered with all natural latex foam...which has no chemicals and will last for a very long time.

Simmons changed their line, as they do every couple of years. The Adamsville was from a few years ago
The new line is called Recharge Classic. The Broadway luxury firm model took the place of the Adamsville plush/firm.

Scoliosis, A Simmons Beautyrest Mattress for my 80 y/o Mother.

Hi Nicole,

How fortunate! Mattresses are pressure sensitive items that wear according to the pressure placed upon them.

The lighter you are, the less you need to spend....and mom is very light, indeed.

Latex allergies are topical, meaning that you have to be touching it, as you would with latex gloves and bandages.

When latex foam is made, it goes through a 5 stage washing cycle that removes so much of the allergen, it is rendered hypo-allergenic.

Not only that, it's covered. The topper comes in a very nice cover, over which you will apply your mattress protector and sheets.

She will never come in contact with the latex and will not have any sort of reaction to it.

Start with a lesser expensive Recharge Classic Beautyrest...the Broadway in Luxury Firm for proper spinal support, 

and add to that,  a 2" soft Talalay latex topper for the extraordinary surface comfort she will love.
