Hi Pete,
I was planning on buying the renaissance bed today, but saw your website during my research.
Marriott says their renaissance bed is the Simmons Beautyrest Hyde Park, which I’ve found to be long discontinued.
What do I buy today that is it’s equivalent?
A king size hyde park was selling for $1900 on their website.
I’m assuming there’s quite a mark up, since it’s discontinued anyways and should be able to save considerably by doing some investigation.
Thanks for your help/advice in advance,
Mike
Hi Mike,
You'll find the facts to be astounding.
Hotels that use Simmons Beautyrest, buy Classic Series models...near the low end of the line.
Like the ones shown here:
https://themattressexpert.com/our-brands/simmons/beautyrest-recharge-classic/
A hotel mattress is used on an average of 3-4 times a week. Rooms are filled on a rotating basis...as all the rooms are not filled every night.
Despite this part-time use, the mattresses are replaced every few years.
What makes a Simmons Beautyrest so comfortable, is the individually pocketed coil system...with each coil moving independently from the others.
This independent suspension type of support contours to the shape of your body, designed to maintain the natural alignment of the spine.
However, while comfortable, Beautyrests don't hold up very well. The poly and memory foams used to upholster a Beautyrest lose their comfort and resiliency rather quickly.
They last a few years with part-time hotel use. You can expect half that with every night use at home.
Over the years, we have learned how to make a Beautyrest work well, long term for home use.
First, you must start with a better Beautyrest...one with a much higher coil count than the Classics.
We recommend the Simmons Beautyrest World Class Santorini in luxury firm...with 1000 coils in queen, instead of the 800 coils in a Classic.
Then you have to get around the premature wear of the foams they use.
So, to that mattress, you'll add an Ever-Eden 2" Soft Talalay Latex Mattress Topper.
Latex is and has been the very best upholstery material on the planet for the last 100 years....best in terms of comfort and durability.
Latex is an all natural product, as opposed to the chemical laden foams used in the mattress.
The latex topper will absorb so much of your body weight, that the mattress will then last for many more years than the manufacturer intended.
We've been recommending the mattress/latrex topper combination for about a decade...and with zero complaints to show for it.
THIS, is how you buy a Beautyrest...if you want it to last long enough to get your money's worth out of it.
Here are the links to the World Class models and the latex toppers.

Over the years, I've encountered many who balk at the idea of having to add a latex topper to a brand new mattress.
The feeling being that they should be able to buy a new mattress and have it hold up without using a latex topper.
The fact is, that the name brands are all using memory foam, which is specifically designed to cause the mattress to need replacing much more frequently in the past.
The hard fact is, if you want a Beautyrest, you had better get a latex topper for it, or you'll have thrown your money away.
But, it's not like we haven't heard all those people who balked at the idea.
Every 6 months, we comb the trade show for high quality alternatives to what the name brands are offering.
More than a year ago, we came across "Natura"...a Canadian company.
Their Greenspring line is very much like the Beautyrest. These models use the same barrel shaped, pre-compressed, individually pocketed coils system.
The differences are: a higher coil count than the World Class and twice tempered steel coils. (Simmons coils are not tempered)
Also, the upholstery is Natural Talalay Latex....containing zero memory foam.
So, for those who balk at the mattress/latex topper combo, here is a mattress that does not require the purchase of a separate latex topper for the sake of longevity.
My wife and I are sleeping on the Natura Greenspring Liberty Ultra Plush model.
