Last December (2007), my husband and I purchased a new Sealy Trueform Queen Visco Mattress (9" visco foam) and placed it on a Tempur-pedic adjustable base. We purchased a premium mattress protector to use on the bed too. My husband was having a lot of health problems, including several bulged discs in his back, and we thought a new bed might help him sleep better. We have since learned that he has heavy metal/mercury poisoning and that has made him super sensitive to chemicals and electromagnetic fields. When he sleeps in this bed, he wakes up with a horrible headache. With his many, many health issues, it took us a while to make the connection between the bed and the headaches. It was not until we were out of town and slept on another bed and he woke up with no headache that we began to suspect the bed. We've since been sleeping on our old mattress that we have placed on the floor in another room and he's sleeping better. We plan to go back to the store and talk with them about the problem and see if they will be willing to work with us to exchange this bed for a different type. My question is, what type of mattress would you recommend for someone with chemical sensitivities? Thanks.
Hi Vicki. There are few products that make it to the market that so many people react as negatively to, as memory foam. Anything without memory foam in it would be a plus. Not knowing what is available at that store, it's hard to say what to look for specifically. But if they had the TrueForm, they may also have the SpringFree latex. How long will it take for your husband to rid himself of the poison in his body?
