Hi Pete,
I recently purchased two Sealy mattress sets at Macy's in Florida that I will be returning after sleeping on for less than 30 Days.
I told salesman I had had back surgery five years ago and needed recommendations.
These mattresses are already sinking in. I weigh only 130 lbs!!!!
I had purchased the 2nd set for my guest room so I moved to that room to compare...same issue!!!
He now recommends I try Simmons Beautyrest plush pillowtop.
Do you recommend these or can you make any other recommendations?
From the input you have said in other responses it seems to me that I should be looking for no pillow top
Do you recommend innersprings ?
I can not afford to go into the latex all foam mattresses.
I have to make this exchange in the next 30 days and do not want to make another mistake
Any advice would be appreciated
Thank you, Leigh
Hi Leigh,
Your first and most damaging mistake was to tell your salesman about your back surgery.
This is information you share with people who know what to do about it.
Most of today's mattress salespeople know little about the products they sell, let alone about how to match up to a physical ailment.
You told him and assumed he'd know what mattress was best for you.
Salespeople are trained to appear knowledgeable....how to make you trust them, without actually having the knowledge worthy of that kind of trust.
It would be better to know what you want before you go shopping. His recommendation that you go with a plush pillowtop is plenty of evidence that he doesn't know what he's doing.
You can research anything on-line. If you do, you'll find the reviews for Simmons Beautyrests to be horrible.
They are as bad as they are, mostly because of the way they are bought and sold. A plush pillowtop is easy to sell, as it's initial comfort is very good.
That is doesn't hold up worth a darn, is why the reviews are so bad.
It's clear that your back will require firm support. Your doctor will tell you as much. As a female side sleeper, you also need some cushioning to relieve the pressure at the hip.
But, what good is a cushy mattress when that padding compresses so quickly and easily?...as yours had.
Start with stronger mattress and add a layer of soft latex, which will not compress. Latex is the highest quality upholstery material available.
There is no substitute for this high quality, all-natural product. And when you have a sensitive back, the sleep system you choose has to feel as it needs to years from now, as it does when it's new.
Go with a Simmons Beautyrest Platinum Sandy Springs in Luxury Firm.
The individually pocketed coils will maintain the natural alignment of your spine. The firm coils will push back against you and support you well.
Instead of a pillowtop model that wears out quickly, get a tight top model and add an EverEden all natural 2" of soft Talalay Latex topper.
These latex toppers provide extraordinary surface comfort that won't negate the underlying firm support of the mattress. Here are links to that mattress and latex topper.
