Hi Anne,

That was a very good mattress, but is no longer available.

In fact, nothing Sealy makes comes close to the quality of that mattress.

Sealy is now owned by Tempurpedic and everything Sealy makes is loaded with memory foam.

Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented.

It performs poorly and off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it's made.

That old Signature Posturepedic has no memory foam in it.

 

To continue to try and match that mattress, is just a waste of your time.

It doesn't exist.

You will have to start from scratch.

And, while you do, keep in mind that in order to make a successful long term purchase, you will need to avoid mattresses made with memory foam.

THIS, will include all the major brands that you sued to be able to trust for quality.

Now that they've all been sold, the investors who bought them, are no longer interested in making a quality product.

So please, be very careful. Salespeople talk about memory foam as if it were the best thing since sliced bread. The reason is because that's where the profit is.

 

 

ALSO IMPORTANT:

I suggest using a waterproof mattress protector with every mattress.

Keeping your mattress clean and dry will greatly extend the life and loft of the upholstery materials inside. Ours sleep cool and make NO Noise.

After that, a Serta and then a Simmons Beautyrest.

Mattresses change a little every couple of years.

Even if you were to order your mattress through the hotel, what you’d get will be the latest model...and not, necessarily, the same mattress that was in the room you occupied.

Simmons Beautyrest is the brand of mattress used, but there are many.

Keep in mind that hotels are geared to make their guests comfortable...and are not so concerned about durability.

Hotel rooms get part time use...unlike at home.

A Luxury Firm Beautyrest with a soft latex topper will give you both...comfort and longevity.

A Beautyrest mattress alone, does not wear well.

Reviews for Simmons Beautyrest mattresses are horrible...something you can look up online for yourself.

I can send you links for what will work for you, if you like.

It won’t be what you asked for. What you asked for is a waste of money.

Hi Raj,

The problem with all of the name brands, is that they’ve all gone bad...using memory foam for their primary upholstery.

Memory foam isn’t very resilient to start, and is temperature sensitive...which means it softens as it warms from your body heat.

This is not something you feel when trying them at stores.

It wears quickly and is purposely designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.

Conversely, all natural latex foam upholstery is and has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years.

The mattress we have at home uses an individually pocketed coil unit, like the Simmons Beautyrest. 

It has a higher coil count and the coils are stronger.

What’s more, the upholstery material is latex...with No Memory Foam.

Sealy Posturepedic Pillowtop Mattress Body Impression Problems.

We are on our second king size pillowtop since Nov 2015....both, developed severe body impressions.  

The first Sealy Posturepedic began to sink quickly. After many issues with the retailer, they replaced it for $250 with another Sealy  pillowtop. 

After 3 months, we are sleeping on the couch  again. These mattresses sink around your body, you feel like you're  sleeping in a hole. 

We are having the inspection company come out again  to see if it has decreased by an inch and a half. I would never buy a  Sealy Pillowtop again. 

I just found your blog and website tonight. I had no idea that pillowtops were such a problem

Hi Sean,

The first thing you need to do is get through the inspection of your mattress successfully. 

Make sure your mattress is free of stains and that your frame, that supports the boxspring, has a center support. 

You can buy a center support separately and add it if it doesn't now have one. 

Both of these things will void your warranty and they are not something you want an inspector to see.

 

Second, an equally important, is the 1.5" sustained depth of the impression. Take a preliminary measurement of the depth as it is. 

Lay a straight edge across the high points of the mattress and measure down to the deepest point, 

(but not into the stitching...to the top of the quilt at the lowest point). If you are exceeding that 1.5" depth, you'll be fine. 

If not, or you find it to be marginal, you will have to insure the results. 

Schedule the inspection for the afternoon. In the morning, upon rising, place a heavy curved object on the bed in at the lowest point of your impression. 

A bowling ball is ideal. When the inspector knocks on your door, remove the object and stash it out of sight...AGAIN, Before you answer the door.

This should insure the results you need to prevail in a warranty claim.

 

While this may appear like cheating, the manufacturer's will take every excuse to deny your claim...and they have an unfair advantage. 

This will level the playing field for you. 

To insure that you don't have to go through all of this again, exchange your mattress for a firm model....then add to it 2" of soft Talalay Latex. 

The latex mattress topper will replace the pillowtop. But unlike the pillowtop, it will keep it's shape...not create an impression...and sleep cool. 

We use the same topper at home on our mattress. It is now several years old and still like new.

Simmons Beautyrest Mattress and Latex Topper for Relief of Arthritis and Back Pain

Hi Pete,

I'm 40, 5'1" (115lb), husband's 46, 6'1" (185lb). He has some arthritis in his back. I have back and neck problems from car accident 2 years ago.

I just, generally, feel worn down from over use and having 8 children. 

We bought a $900 Sealy mattress, couple of years ago that didn't work (a very happy teenager is now enjoying it). 

Then, we bought a Tempurpedic. My husband liked it unless his back was out. Horrible for me... sold it within a few weeks. 

My son's Simmons Beautyrest Dresden firm mattress has proven itself to work for me, (husband too), though hoped I could do a tad better. 

I'm a back and side sleeper. Was going to play it safe and buy a similar Simmons model and could add a latex topper if needed. 

Or, perhaps one of their Platinum Series models for a little more padding. 

Reviews don't seem very good about Simmons.

I'm also suppose to receive a MRI for both my neck and back. Wondered if I should wait for the results. 

Sleeping is a big issue and can't afford to make another mistake.

You are on the right track. Don't let the reviews throw you off. 

What the stores are selling are the plush and pillowtop models, which don't hold up well, at all. 

The firmer models, without the pillowtops and with a latex topper, hold up just fine.

Help Choosing a Mattress for a Large Man with Degenerative Disc Disease.

A Luxury Firm Simmons Beautyrest Mattress & Latex Topper for a Bad back.

Do you recommend these or can you make any other recommendations?

Your first and most damaging mistake was to tell your salesman about your back surgery. 

This is information you share with people who know what to do about it. 

Most of today's mattress salespeople know little about the products they sell, let alone about how to match up to a physical ailment.

You told him and assumed he'd know what mattress was best for you. 

Salespeople are trained to appear knowledgeable....how to make you trust them, without actually having the knowledge worthy of that kind of trust. 

It would be better to know what you want before you go shopping. His recommendation that you go with a plush pillowtop is plenty of evidence that he doesn't know what he's doing.  

You can research anything on-line. If you do, you'll find the reviews for Simmons Beautyrests to be horrible. 

They are as bad as they are, mostly because of the way they are bought and sold. A plush pillowtop is easy to sell, as it's initial comfort is very good.

That is doesn't hold up worth a darn, is why the reviews are so bad.

 

It's clear that your back will require firm support. Your doctor will tell you as much. As a female side sleeper, you also need some cushioning to relieve the pressure at the hip. 

But, what good is a cushy mattress when that padding compresses so quickly and easily?...as yours had.

Start with stronger mattress and add a layer of soft latex, which will not compress. Latex is the highest quality upholstery material available. 

There is no substitute for this high quality, all-natural product. And when you have a sensitive back, the sleep system you choose has to feel as it needs to years from now, as it does when it's new.

Sealy and S&F were purchased by Tempurpedic in 2013. Everything thing they make today is loaded with memory foam.

Sealy and S&F are no longer on our website because of this. I find that they are no longer worth buying...so, we no longer sell them.

 

 

However, we have expanded our latex selection.

We have a few options for firm latex models. What I consider to be the Best Buy, from among the other brands, is the EverEden.

A Latex Topper on Our New Sealy Posturepedic Mattress.

We recently had a warranty replacement on our mattress bought a year ago thru a chain store.
