Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress.

Hi Pete,

I see you have a lot of mattresses by Natura and another brand. 

I am wondering why the Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush Mattress is what you often recommend.  

I, too, am over 200 lbs, 63 years old, but working on reducing that to save my knees and overall health. 

I have osteopenia (precursor of osteoporosis) and have started breaking things in falls.   

I feel like if I can get better sleep, it will be easier to work on everything else.  

I also have a DDD, degenerative disc disease.

 

Is that mattress as close as it gets (with better lasting power) to that Sealy Artesia HD I slept on so well? 

Or would you recommend a different mattress? 

Right now, apart from that Marriott bed, I sleep better on a large air mattress, very full, than on most mattresses, and my couch is also better than most beds.  

I have changed hotels in the past just due to mattress discomfort in the middle of a trip!  

I'm inclined to try what you recommend, in a twin, to see if it works as a replacement in a guest bedroom. 

Then go from there to a queen in my bedroom if I sleep well on the twin.  

(is there a difference, do you think, between the twin and queen?)  

And is there another mattress you would recommend instead of the Natura Greenspring Ultra-plush?

What caused you to sleep so well on that hotel mattress is the individually pocketed coils that contour to the shape of the body and maintain the natural alignment of the spine.

What that mattress didn’t have is what most of today’s mattresses have…memory foam upholstery.

It’s the memory foam in most mattresses that causes you to sleep poorly.

Your River Crest is made of latex with a some polyurethane foam on top.

The Natura of Canada Latex Hybrid use a polyurethane foam core with latex on top.

Their all latex mattresses have only an inch of poly foam in the quilted cover.

 

If going with an all latex mattress, I recommend the Blossom model.

Sealy Mattress that we Purchased in 2015.

I found your site while looking into our Sealy mattress that we purchased in 2015.  

Since then I've had significant ongoing issues, skin rashes, fatigue, irritability, mood swings and general unwell feeling.

I've been to many doctors and explored all avenues I could but now I believe it's due to the mattress.

Sealy was purchased by Tempurpedic in 2013.

All of their mattresses are upholstered with memory foam.

Memory foam is made of 61 different chemicals, some of which are highly toxic.

You are, no doubt, reacting to the chemical off gassing.

Some people are more sensitive to these chemicals than others.

Mattress at the Comfort Inn Hotel?

 

Hi Pete,

I was searching the internet for the mattress purchased by Comfort Inn. 

I saw a response, but it was from 2012, stating most hotels purchase Sealy, Serta and Simmons.

With the post being 7 years old, I was wondering if this is still true? 

I am looking to purchase a new mattress in the next month and slept very well there.

Hi Kim,

Sealy, Simmons and Serta dominate the hotel industry.

The last time I checked, Comfort Inn had Sealy.

Sheraton switched from Sealy Posturepedic to Simmons Beautyrest, in the wake of Sealy being sold to Tempurpedic.

The larger, better hotels will, usually, use Sealy or Simmons.

I find that many of the lower end motels will use Serta.

 

Whatever you find in hotels can no longer be found at retail stores.

The model names for each mattress will be different at every store, and every hotel...making shopping difficult.

 

The best way to shop is by comparing the specifications....a list of the materials used in the mattress.

Get that info from the hotel who's mattress you like, and compare that list of specifications to other mattresses.

It's a bit of a chore. Or, you can buy the mattress from the hotel...in many cases.

Natura Bourdolay Natural Plush Latex to Replace a Sealy Memory Foam Mattress.

I am a 355 lb woman. 

I replaced my coil mattress, approximately two years ago, with a Sealy memory foam mattress and an adjustable bed frame. 

As memory foam does it conformed to my body creating a mold and a significant indentation in my mattress. 

I now sleep at a slope which is uncomfortable and causes me severe knee pain each night. 

I was diagnosed, recently, with severe knee arthritis in both knees. 

I think the firmness of the foam is playing a role in aggravating the knee pain.
My most significant and ongoing concern is that I barely sleep each night. 

This has been going on for 2+ years, and I am physically exhausted.
I need a mattress that will support my weight and not cause a slope or hole. 

BUT, it must be soft enough not cause knee or hip pain because I sleep on my side. 

If I could use my adjustable bed frame with it that would be a plus. 

I have been looking at all types of reviews on the internet.

The name brands, for the most part, have gone bad. What you bought is one of the worst mattresses made.

Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented for use in or as a mattress. 

It's pure junk and absolutely worthless....contrary to all the hype, ads, and sales pitches.

 

There are very few mattresses that will hold your weight for very long. 

The strongest, most durable and most comfortable, is an all latex mattress, made of Natural Talalay Latex.

Latex is and has been the best upholstery material you can buy, anywhere on the planet, for the last 100 years.

An all latex mattress will also work well on your adjustable bed base.

Simmons Beautyrest Ever-Nu Mattress at the Aloft Hotel.

It said Simmons Beautyrest Ever-Nu on it. But, when I asked the hotel they said it was a Serta Heavenly Bed.

Simmons and Serta had been purchased by the same Investment group...hence the hotel's employee's confusion.

"The Heavenly Bed" has always been a Simmons Beautyrest...differently made from that which Serta produces. 

 

 

Ever-Nu refers to the zipper off top, exclusively made for the hospitality industry.

When the top padding is no longer comfortable, the hotels can replace the top only...saving the expense of replacing the entire mattress.

 

The Simmons Beautyrest mattresses, that you can buy at retail stores, are all upholstered with memory foam.

One of the reasons why we still carry some of their mattresses, is because the memory foam Simmons uses does not off gas VOCs.

Also, the individually pocketed coils do a fine job of maintaining the natural alignment of the spine. (THIS is why you liked it so much).

But, memory foam doesn't wear well. So, when we recommend a Simmons Beautyrest, we also recommend a latex topper to go on it.

The latex topper insulates you from the memory foam, and causes the mattress to remain like new for many years.

Problems with a 10 Year Old Bassett Carrington Chase Latex Mattress.

It came with a 20 year warranty. But, the store is out of business and I don't know where to file a warranty claim.

 

Also, this mattress has softened over the years and my back is hurting me.

Sealy owned Bassett and used the Carrington Chase label for the Bassett Furniture stores.

Since then, Sealy was purchased by Tempurpedic.

At this point, you will need to file your warranty claim with Tempur-Sealy directly.

Frankly, you don't need to buy anything to make your mattress firm.

All you need do, is flip it over.

Even though it's a one sided mattress, the underside is firm latex that supports the softer latex and poly foam on top of it.

Once flipped, the firm latex will be on top...providing a very firm feel.

If you like the feel, you don't need to buy anything.

If it's too firm for you, you can then add a Pure Bliss 2" Plush Latex Topper to it for additional surface comfort.

Wow! That mattress is very old. 

Sealy changed from two sided to one sided in 2003.

Ten years later, Sealy was purchased by Tempurpedic. Today, everything they make is upholstered with memory foam.

Memory foam is used, specifically, to keep a mattress from lasting too long. The one you have, has no memory foam in it.

 

There is no equivalent to what you have. But, you can come close to it.
