Loved My Memory Foam Mattress, Until I Didn’t.

I bought a memory foam mattress about 5 weeks ago.

At first, my wife and I loved it. About 3-4 weeks in, we started to feel less comfortable. It became difficult to change sleeping position and it’s making me sweat. I’m now, also, feeling a twinge of pain in my back.

 

I got online to do some additional research, where I found your blog.

In doing so, I became interested in your Magniflex Mattresses.

Hi John,

The problems you’re experiencing are due to memory foam being a temperature sensitive material. It’s the only upholstery material that is.

As it warms from your body’s heat, it softens, allowing your body to sink into it.

At first, only a little, which is why it was so comfortable in the beginning.

However, memory foam isn’t very resistant. So it doesn’t take long before you’re sinking in a little too far. The more you sink into it, the more difficult it becomes to change position without waking up. And, the more you sink, the more encompassed you become making it hotter.

Being a temperature sensitive product, it absorbs your body heat and reflects that heat back to you.

 

Magniflex uses memoform foam, developed in Italy.

It is not temperature sensitive, providing that initial cradling feel of memory foam without all the negative side effects. The initial feel that you liked so much about memory foam remains unchanged for many years.

Changing position is always easy. No chemicals to worry about. No sleeping hot.

Hi Anna,

We have been warning consumers about memory foam for the last 25 years, ever since it was introduced.

There are several problems with memory foam.

Memory foam was specifically designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing, and NOT under the terms of the warranty.

It softens as it warms from your body's heat. not being terribly resilient, it doesn't take long, (usually a matter of months), before you begin to sink too far into it. This throws off the natural alignment of the spine, causing back pain. Any pre-existing back pain is made worse than ever before.

When you get off the mattress, the memory foam returns, so that the criteria needed to prevail in a warranty claim is almost never met.

That part of it is positively diabolical.

Memory foam consists of 61 different chemicals, some of which are highly toxic. Formaldehyde and Benzene are only 2 of them.

You may have noticed the chemical smell in the air when you walk into most stores.

Memory Foam is a Temperature Sensitive Material...previously mentioned as to why you sink into it.

That temperature sensitivity causes memory foam to absorb your body's heat and reflect it back to you...causing the user to sleep hot.

 

These are all of the problems with memory foam that have caused me to rail against if for a quarter of a century.

Having been working in this industry for more than a half century, I was naturally outraged.

All of the name brands had been sold to investors and memory foam is a high profit item.

It's cheap to make and creates mattresses that are now disposable, instead of lasting for a decade or two.

Magniflex vs. Tempur-Pedic Mattresses.

Latex was hit hardest during the pandemic, with supply disruptions and price increases. 

However, there’s still nothing like the feel and durability of latex.

EverEden was so badly affected, they switched to memory foam, which is thee thing to avoid. 

So, we no longer sell that brand.

 

We did pick up a line of advanced memory foam mattresses that are made in Italy. Magniflex.

They are chemical free and not temperature sensitive...the two reasons why I don’t like memory foam.

They call it MemoForm.

I don't recommend any all foam mattress for a 60 year old.

At that age, there are bound to be some worn discs that require the support of innerspring mattresses.

 

A cheap, throw away mattress has no value. 

Under a larger person, a cheap mattress will need such frequent replacing, that it ends up costing a lot more in the long term.

I have a very good quality, lower cost option for you.

Most of them should be totally avoided.

Most mattresses made today use the worst type of memory foam for the purpose of selling more mattresses more frequently.

Head to toe hives on a Tempur-Pedic Mattress.
