The model name, Great Lakes Cove, will be different at every store. 

The Great Lakes Cove is a Silver Series Beautyrest and there's only one Luxury Firm model in that series.

To shop for it, simply ask for the Simmons Beautyrest, Silver Series, Luxury Firm. Regardless of the model name, it will be the same mattress.

A Good Mattress for my Small Child

Hi Pete,

We bought a Serta mattress for our small child, who was moving from his crib.

We bought that mattress less than a year ago and we are not happy.

Our son is all of 35 pounds. This mattress already has a dip in it and he continually wakes up drenched in sweat.

All this sent me to the internet to find out what went wrong, which is where I found you.

Based on what I read on your blog, I'm guessing that it's the memory foam in the mattress that's causing the problem. 

Also, he's been stuffy, on a regular basis. 

I was about to schedule a doctor's appointment, but after reading some of your blog posts about the chemical off gassing, we put his mattress in the garage.

 

The stuffy and night sweats went away. (He's been in the guest room for the past few nights).

That God I found you. And, thank you for making me aware of the dangers of memory foam. Nothing is more important than my son's health.

Since you have already learned what you need to know about memory foam, I'll skip the lecture.

Yes, you can use that Serta boxspring. It's the best thing Serta makes and it has no memory foam.

Don't let the price fool you. There's no need to worry about the quality. It has a good coil count with coils made of tempered steel.

The individually pocketed coils all move independently from one another, which will maintain the natural alignment of her spine.

It will continue to do that as she grows over the years to come.

Heat becomes a problem when you buy a mattress that is upholstered with memory foam...which reflects body heat back to you.

This mattress has NO Memory Foam.

A Good Mattress for My 2 Year Old Child?

I was wondering if you could recommend a mattress for my 2 year old. 

He is just coming from his crib, and we are planning on buying him a full size mattress. 

I have been doing some research as to what mattress is best for his growing little body, and offers the best support as well as comfort. 

I have read that foam and memory foam are not good for growing kids, and to stick with the innerspring style. 

Should I go with firmer rather than softer?

Avoiding memory foam is an absolute must. Memory foam is made from a toxic chemical soup.

A good quality innerspring mattress, that provides firm support and a comfortable sleeping surface, is what to get.

The firm support for his growing skeletal system and some softness at the surface, without being too soft, will provide the optimum sleep experience.

Since he weighs very little and won't add any real weight for the next 10 years, it doesn't make sense to spend a lot of money.

The Brolynn Plush, old fashioned, two sided mattress will last him until he is grown and gone...and at a reasonable price.

Simmons Beautyrest Silver Series Level One Mattress for a Child.

A 10" Max, Mattress for a Child's Day Bed

Your boy's mattresses, typically, will last about 10 years.

If you plan on moving them into a bigger mattress, once they get a little older, then what you have will time out well.

However, if you would like those mattresses to last until they are grown and gone, add an EverEden 2" Soft or Medium Vytex Dunlop Latex topper.

Indeed, we do.

In fact, my eldest granddaughter is growing up on one. She is now 7, and has had her mattress since she was 3.

It provides the excellent support of the pocketed coil, and is upholstered with all natural latex...very comfy.

Organic Mattress for Us and our Son.

Hi Pete,

We recently bought a new mattress that had a strange odor.

We just thought it was that "New Mattress Smell".

When our young son came into bed with us, the next morning, he started coughing...then began having trouble breathing.

 

We got him into the car and rushed him over to the hospital. 

By the time we got there, his breathing was easier and he had stopped coughing.

Even before going in, I knew it was the mattress we had delivered the day before.

After hearing the whole story, the doctor confirmed that it was a reaction to chemicals, and surmised that it was likely to be from the mattress..given the timing

We immediate put that mattress in the garage. 

The store was reluctant to pick it up and refund our money, even after telling them what had happened. They were more agreeable when we threatened to sue them.

They picked it up the next day.

 

We are now sleeping in our guestroom, while we shop for a new mattress.

We went to a couple of different stores, but immediately detected that same odor upon entering. 

So, I went on line and found your blog.

Now, I know it was the memory foam in the mattress that caused all this.

 

Since our son appears to be hypersensitive, I don't want to take any chances.

We need to get a mattress is is all organic and completely chemical free.

Since he will be transitioning from his crib to his first Big Boy bed soon, anyway.

We figured we'd shop for his as well.

 

We are in our late 20's, healthy, trim and fit.

What would you recommend for us.

I have just the thing. It's what we most often recommend for a child's room. It's very well made and reasonably priced.

They are similar to the Simmons Beautyrest, in that it also uses a pre-compressed pocketed coil unit.

It's an important type support, contouring to the shape of the body and maintaining the spine's natural alignment.

The difference is that the coils are made of tempered steel...while Simmons doesn't temper the steel they use.

Also, the Simmons mattresses are upholstered with memory foam, while the Adrian and Adara models are upholstered with all natural latex.

Latex is far superior to memory foam, both, in comfort and longevity.

The Simmons Beautyrest work better for small children who don't weight much.

Your daughter is at the age where she will soon grow into adult size and weight. 

And your use for it as a guest room bed, will also need to accommodate adult size people.

 

These Adrian and Adara mattresses are basically the same in specification.

The Adara model is just a little more than the Adrian because the Adara uses all natural materials.
