2 Mattresses for Futon Frames.

As a 40-year chiropractor and connoisseur of good sleep practices, I have SO enjoyed and agreed with your writings on your website! 

I am shopping for 2 mattresses.  

 

The first is for my futon bed frame in Honolulu.

The 8” cotton/wool Cannon Sleep Products futon mattress is still in very good condition after 15 years.  

I topped it with a Woolrest wool fleece which I bought in New Zealand 35 years ago. 

So, I know that good quality lasts. 

In the last year it has begun to feel too hard. 

I am sore all over in the morning. (I am 73 and still active with house repair, yard work, and water sports, primarily kayaking). A recent fall coupled with overwork in building a shed has both low back and bilateral shoulder capsules in constant pain - it wakes me several times per night and often a hand is numb. 

What do you recommend ? 

I have a nice cherry queen size slatted futon frame, which I want to continue using.

 

The second one is for a vacation cottage on an island in Puget Sound. 

There I have a wood slat base futon frame, also queen, with a too-soft mattress. 

I will replace it when I return there in May. 

I sleep in an attic space which is accessed through a 56” x 32” hatch via ship’s ladder. 

With these limitations, I cannot get a standard queen mattress into the space. 

How about a Wolf Corp mattress in their shipping box? 

What are the dimensions of the queen shipping box? 

Which of their hybrid mattresses on your website would you recommend for me?

I am 6’, 180 lbs.

Looking for a New Queen Size Futon Mattress.

Hi Jill,

Yes. We carry several types of futon mattresses. Two of them have coils inside and all are available in Full and Queen size.

But, before doing anything else, there is a way to make what you have more comfortable.

This is a two person job, so you'll need someone to help you.

With each of you at each end of the mattress, pick it up and give it a good shaking.

Since the cotton has compressed, a good slamming on the floor with help loosen it up.

The shaking will help to fluff up the cotton.

Many people who buy futon mattresses aren't told how to maintain them. 

You should know that a good shaking once a month from the time they are new, will help to keep the cotton from becoming too compressed. 

Doing this will help them to remain more comfortable longer.
