Hi Kathryn,

Wolf was sold to Blue Bell.

The only mattress remaining is one from Blue Bell. 

This mattress will, eventually, be made at the Wolf factory. 

It’s only one of several that we care to carry…most of them aren’t worth buying.

The Tulah Luxury Plush Eurotop Mattress has 1/2" of Certipur Certified Memory foam under 2" of Polyurethane foam. So, there's no off gassing and doesn't sleep hot.

King Mattress and Adjustable Bed Base Delivery Questions.

When they deliver my new king bed and adjustable bed base, will the delivery crew move my queen set and install it in the bottom bedroom? I, also have an old mattress that needs to be removed. Will they do that?

Simmons Beautyrest Legend Plush Mattress Arrived Damaged.

I came across your blog and website after looking for help with a recent mattress purchase.

I bought a Simmons Beautyrest Legend in plush. It arrived damaged.

They will be exchanging the mattress later this week.

My question is, should I have them bring me the same mattress or the Luxury Firm model?

Hi Helen,

The gauge of the wire used to make the coils in their plush models, is very thin.

They wear out quickly, and are the source of all of Simmons' negative reviews.

So yes, get the Luxury Firm version of that mattress.

 

There's something else, also very important.

Simmons did not delivery them a damaged mattress.

Stores, like the one from which you bought yours, offer a comfort exchange.

Neither Simmons, nor any of the other name brands participate in this offer.

That store cannot return those sent-back mattress to the factory for credit.

Stores have to do something else with those mattresses.

Many stores will put them on the floor and sell them off at a reduced price as a floor model.

And as illegal as it is, some stores try to pawn them off as new to the next person who wants one.

This is especially true of the store that sells the Beautyrest Legend...there's only one store that has that label.

 

So, to ensure that you are getting a new mattress, you have to inspect the packaging.

To hide the fact that it's a used mattress, the delivery guys are instructed to unpack it in the truck.

Make sure you tell the store manager that you insist it be unpacked in your home, and NOT on the truck.

 

Here's what to look for:

Inspect the four edges of the mattress...specifically, the plastic that encases it.

When packed at the factory, there's a layer of plastic on top and bottom.

Those layers of plastic are heat sealed on all four sides of the mattress.

 

When a used mattress is returned to a plastic bag, one of those edges will be taped closed...not heat sealed.

That's what to look for. If you see one side taped closed, you know it's a used mattress...returned on comfort exchange.

Sleep Number Mattress Not Working For a Very Large Woman.

Hi Pete,

At this moment, I am in the middle of a 100-night trial on a Sleep Number bed!  

To me, it feels like I am "just dealing with it for a night or two camping" but that feeling may be because of my body.  

 

First of all, I'm a very large woman, weighing close to 450 pounds. 

I have a frozen shoulder, fibromyalgia, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis and severe osteoarthritis.  

I sleep alone but I also have positional vertigo, so I sleep catty-corner so I never feel like I am falling. 

I just got rid of a Cal King to get the Queen size sleep number bed.  

I am happy with either size although the Queen feels too small for sleeping catty-corner.  

 

Last October I stayed at a Worldmark by Wyndham resort for a week.  

They had a Simmons Cape Breton Pillow top and I thought I was in seventh heaven.  

I slept so well but I would love your input to find a bed that works for me. 

This sleep number bed is certainly not working!

I guess you’ve figured out, by now, that a Sleep Number is the wrong mattress for you. Quite frankly, it’s the wrong mattress for most people.
An air mattress is like a waterbed, relying on displacement rather than providing real support.

The Simmons Beautyrest mattresses use a pre-compressed, individually pocketed coil unit, which provides upward and contouring support, which maintains the natural alignment of your spine.
It’s this, that makes those hotel Beautyrest mattresses so comfortable.
Unfortunately, their coils are made of raw steel, not tempered steel.
Under your weight, they won’t hold up well nor last very long.

I have a mattress that is made with the same kind of coil system as the Simmons Beautyrest, having a higher coil count, and those coils made of double tempered steel.
Also, the upholstery is Natural Talalay Latex, which is far more resilient than the polyurethane foam used in a hotel grade Beautyrest...which is more resilient than the memory foam used in retail grade Beautyrests.

The Natura of Canada Greenspring is the mattress I’m recommending.
I have had a number of customers sporting your same weight, and this is what works, world well, and lasts a long time.

Specially, it’s their Firm model and a Pure Bliss 3” Plush Natural Talalay Latex Topper to go on it. 

The Firm mattress is for durability and the Plush Latex Topper is for surface comfort.
The topper will need replacing every few to several years, but not the mattress.

The only downside to this, is the wait time.
The factory is currently closed, due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
They are scheduled to reopen on May 4th.
It’ll take 3-4 weeks after that to receive the mattress.

However, it's well worth the wait.

Delivered Simmons Beautyrest Mattress, Not The One We Ordered.

Last week I bought a Simmons Beautyrest Silver Series mattress, from a store here in Texas. 

The salesman we have been dealing with is a bit shoddy and knows nothing about his products.

Delayed delivery, lots of excuses, etc. I get the feeling of being hustled.

 

Once we finally received the mattress, it was not even the one we ordered. 

My worries are this. Could their mattresses be knock offs?

I looked around on your website for similar topics but didn't come across anything.

In all my nearly 50 years in the furniture/mattress industry, I've never heard of knock off mattress.

The four major problems are:

1) Bait and Switch, (Very common among some mattress chain stores)

2) Reconstituted mattresses. (Reupholstered, used mattresses...mostly sold in the inner city)

3) Clearance Centers. (Selling manufacturer's defects, bought for pennies on the dollar and sold as new)

4) Mattress stores selling customer returned mattresses as new. 

    (As illegal as that is, it happens all the time...thanks to the "Comfort Guarantee" scam.

 

My advice?

Send it back for a refund and start over. (Never buy from someone you know you can't trust)

Is Delivery Available to a Remote Location, New Harbor Maine?

New Harbor appears to be quite the remote location. 

My wife and I lived in an equally remote location on the opposite side of the country...Shelter Cove, CA.

We got a white glove delivery there.

The answer is yes. Delivery to New Harbor is not a problem...free and with no sales tax.

 

There's two ways of thinking on when to place the order.

My best guess tells me that the delivery people will go to that area far less frequently than they would to an urban or suburban area.

Your mattresses may sit in their warehouse for a couple of weeks before they can get a load going your way.

So, you'll want to get the order in sooner than later.

 

On the other hand, despite that all appears to be going well, closings don't always go according to Hoyle.

It may be prudent to wait...especially if you have older mattresses that you can use while you're waiting.

Delivery times vary, depending on the manufacturer.

Natura takes a little longer...approximately 3 weeks, coming from Canada.

 

The choice of a 5” & 10” foundation refers to the height.

 

A King size mattress is always one piece.

For a split king to be used on adjustable bed bases, you would order 2 Twin XL.

 

The Natura comes with white glove delivery...brought in and set up. For that, someone would need to be home.

 

Many of our other products that ship UPS or FedEx, are left at the door. No signature is needed, so no one needs to be home.
