Sore Backs and Sleeping Hot on a Pure Latex Bliss Nature Latex Mattress.

Hello Peter,

In June of 2014, we purchased the Pure Latex Bliss Nature mattress.

We also added a Latex Bliss 3 inch mattress topper to make it softer.

My husband and I have been both struggling with sore backs since we purchased this.   

We paid a lot of money for everything. Total $4593.

 

We removed the mattress topper because it we found it too soft.

Can you suggest how we can make the mattress firmer?  

Is there other mattress toppers that can make the mattress firmer?

Also the mattress gets hot while your sleeping.  

Anything to help with the heat?

Hi Diana,

Latex doesn't produce heat. Only memory foam does that.

However, if you're hot sleepers, there is a product out there that helps dramatically.

It's called "ChiliPad". We used one while living in the desert southwest. It works well.

Also, flip your mattress over. You'll find the underside to be firmer.

Chili Pad, if you're tired of sweating it out on a mattress that sleeps hot.

Hi Pete,
My husband & I purchased a queen-sized Sealy bed in early 2008 that is a thick foam, probably 10” – 12”.  I think it is latex – but I am not sure, it may be memory foam.  

It gives us no problems as far as comfort and is wearing very well.  When I flip it over, which is a chore because it is VERY heavy, both sides sleep the same.  

Our only complaint is that when both of us are in bed, the bed gets so hot after about 2-3 hours that we can’t stand it.  Neither of us get a good night’s rest until one of us goes to the guest bedroom.  

We don’t really want to replace the mattress.  So, I purchased a mattress pad made with Outlast material, no help; I’ve replaced our down comforter with a lighter weight wool one – small improvement, but still sweating too much.  

I read through several of your blogs and came across one about the Chili Bed topper – but noticed you stopped carrying them?  

So, I guess my question is – what would you suggest – replace the mattress with..? or buy a topper (which one??)?
I am 64”/130lbs and my husband is 72”/190lbs.  I am a side sleeper and he alternates between side/back.

Hi Jillian,

I find it odd that the bed doesn't sleep hot with only one of you in bed...and does with both of you in it.

My issue with The Chili Pad, was that they took a very long time to ship.

We bought and used one and were very pleased with the result.

Since there's nothing wrong with your mattress, The Chili Pad sounds like an ideal solution for you. 

You will be able to set the temperature to your precise comfort level.

It would be best to buy one from a retailer that stocks them, so that you won't have to wait.

Sleeping cool on a hot Tempurpedic mattress
