Hi Pete,
Right now my fiancee and I are trying to select a new mattress.
She has Fibromyalgia and needs a mattress with a very soft feel.
Out of the ones we have been able to try out she really likes a Simmons Beautyrest Pillowtop Mattress.
I also thought it was very nice but am very leery about purchasing another pillowtop bed because they just don't seem to last.
I saw one of your older posts where you suggested a Simmons Beautyrest with the addition of a latex topper to someone with a similar concern. What would your recommendation be today?
And, what would the shipping time's be on both of these items?
We would like to have the bed before the end of the September since our wedding day is 10/4. It would be wonderful if we could have it before the big day :)
Thanks, John
Hi John,
Let me stop you from making a mistake.
Simmons, along with all of the other (so called) name brands have been sold. The new owners are using memory foam upholstery.
Memory foam is highly deceptive…comfortable at first, and not so only months later.
When shopping, you feel that initial comfort.
Before long, you’ll sink through the memory foam to firm support layers under it.
The pillowtop part is the first thing to show wear, so you’re correct about not getting that and using a soft latex topper instead.
Latex wears extremely well. So as the years go buy, all you’ll need to replace is the topper and not the mattress.
But first, you need to start with a mattress using individually pocketed coils and no memory foam.
The individually pocketed coils provide the contouring support your body needs for proper spinal alignment.
Start with the PlushBeds Luxury Bliss Mattress in Medium.

Add to that, a Latex for Less 3” Soft Organic and Hypoallergenic Latex Topper.

Fibromyalgia is a progressive condition.
The best way to get a really soft surface feel, add a PlushBeds Alternative Down Topper. These are not as long lasting as latex, but latex, while soft, doesn’t have that pillowy feel that someone with severe fibromyalgia will need and want.
So, both toppers may be necessary.

If you need a foundation, I recommend the Magniflex KD Foundation.
It’s extremely well made. Available in 2 heights and 3 colors.
No tools are needed and it assembles easily.
