Hi Pete,
I have an old Sealy Posturepedic queen size mattress, model Mira Loma II.
It has a Cotton Damask Cover, 782 High Profile Tempered Steel Coils, Heavy Duty Border Rod Edge Guard and Torsion Bar Boxspring.
It came with a 10/10 year warranty, and Yes, I still have the paperwork.
I bought it in 2002….I rotate and flip it regularly. It is, STILL, in good condition but could be a bit more comfortable.
What would you recommend?
Thanks, Joe
Hi Joe,
You bought the last great mattress that Sealy made.
You'd be appalled to learn that there isn't a Sealy mattress, today, that's worth buying.
In 2003, just a year after you bought your two sided Sealy Posturepedic, they became one sided.
10 years later, Sealy was sold to Tempurpedic.
Every Sealy mattress made, today, is upholstered with memory foam...the worst upholstery material ever invented. There is no memory foam in the mattress you have, which is why it lasted for such a long time.
My only suggestion is to add a latex topper to your mattress.
Latex is and has been the best upholstery material for the last 100 years...most comfortable and longest lasting.
A latex topper will absorb your body weight and greatly retard any further wear of your mattress.
You'll want to hang on to that mattress for as long as you can.
You don't want to buy a new mattress, if you can avoid it.
All of the name brands have been sold and all are now upholstered with memory foam.
None of them are of the quality they had once been.
Memory foam is specifically designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.
