Hi Pete,
I'm a big man...6'5" and 350 lbs....and I have some back pain that I deal with.
My fiancée is much smaller...5'7" and about 135 lbs. She likes a soft mattress.
The mattresses I've been buying haven't held up well and I'd like some advice as to what I should get.
We don't have a lot of money to spend on this....$2000 max for queen size.
Thanks, Joe
Hi Joe,
The only way to get something that will be soft enough for your fiancé and strong enough to hold up under a man your size and support your back properly, is to use high quality materials.
The industry, as a whole and especially the name brands, are geared to selling mattresses that are specifically designed to need frequent replacing under average body weight, using memory foam upholstery on top.
Memory foam is the poorest quality upholstery material ever invented.
My recommendation comes in two parts.
- A mattress that is strong enough to hold a big man long term.
- A soft latex topper for surface comfort that does not negate the firm underlying support of the mattress.
- Stays within your budget.
First is for the Wolf Tulah Luxury Plush Eurotop Mattress, which is plenty firm.
Second is for a Suite Sleep 3" Soft Organic Latex Topper.
Together, they will provide what she wants and what you need.
UPDATE!…This Wolf Mattress Has Been Discontinued.
We are pleased to offer you a higher quality mattress from Eco-Terra.
This mattress provides the same support with an upgrade in upholstery.
The higher quality upholstery provides greater comfort and longevity.
