Hey there,
We have spoken in the past about an Old Stearns & Foster Knightsbridge Mattress.
I found one & should have gotten it but didn't because it was a king. I wanted a queen.
I know they are older than dirt - mine got wet but I want to find another.
I don't know if the Knightsbridge was med, soft, firm etc. All I know is it was double sided pillow top perfection.
I found an old Stearns & Foster "Derby". (Another spare room situation & used 3 times) It's not a pillow top but it does have the "old" S&F label that I'm looking for. You know - the old one built back before it was taken over and ruined by Serta or whomever owns it now.
Can you tell me how the derby compares to the Knightsbridge of olde? I know it's a stretch but you were so up on the Knightsbridge I hope you'll know about the derby too. I've looked online and can't find squat. You are my last resort.
Again - Thank you for your time
Christine
Hi Christine,
S&F graded their mattresses alphabetically.
You can tell the grade by the first letter of the model name.
“A” was the lowest.
Each market place, (any given city and vicinity, for instance), will have gotten a different model name for each store in that area for the same mattress.
So, any S&F with a model name beginning with “K” will be exactly the same as the Knightsbridge”.
And while an old D grade may not have been as substantially made as a K grade, that 20+ year old D grade S&F was much better made than most mattresses made today.
How much mileage is left, after all these years, depends upon the use it got.
Having only been used as a guest bed is your best scenario.
Don’t forget a waterproof mattress “encasement”.
You never know what may be living in it.
A waterproof encasement is the best way to isolate yourself from that.
You won’t want to go through the hassle of taking a 6 sided encasement off and putting it back on for the sake of laundering, so you’ll want a 5 sided mattress protector that goes on and off easily, as well.
Here’s a link to the ones we carry…organic cotton.

A waterproof mattress protector will extend the life of any mattress, keeping it clean and dry.
