Hi Jim,
The first thig to do is to remain calm. This is not an insurmountable problem.
Bed bugs die quickly when faced with high heat.
The next thing to do is to strip your mattress and get out your wife's hair dryer.
Turn it up to high and give the mattress a good going over with the heat from the hair dryer.
I suggest getting a mattress encasement for your mattress.
You'll want the peace of mind that any remaining little critters that are deep in the mattress won't be able to get out. What remains will eventually die off.
