Hi, Pete,
We purchased the Talalay medium soft latex topper, just over a year ago.
I am a long time customer from when we lived in Delaware and you were in NJ.
We now live in Lancaster, PA, where the topper was sent to.
I should have bought the firm topper, as my right hip still is still very sore each night and may or may not be due to a mild spinal stenosis I have (for which the doc says I should sleep on firm).
Anyway, is there anything, such as a really thin piece of plywood, or any suggestions, that I can place under the topper to make it more firm? Our topper was $600 and we just can’t afford a new mattress.
If plywood works, can you tell me how thin or thick?
And if we are forced to get a new mattress, not cement-like firm, what do you suggest?
Thanks, Cathy
Hi Cathy,
It’s counterintuitive, to me, to think that a firmer surface will make your hip feel better.
Quite the opposite has proven to be true.
Stenosis is a completely different issue. One has nothing to do with the other.
For that, firm contouring support will maintain the spine’s natural alignment.
That’s best achieved with a mattress using an individually pocketed coil system.
I don’t know what mattress you have, but if it’s upholstered with memory foam, memory foam will make any physical condition worse.
Flip your mattress over and re-apply the topper.
This should be all you need to do.
Thanks, Pete
