Hi Pete,
My wife and I recently spent 16 days on vacation in a rental that had a mattress we both fell in love with.
It wasn’t my first time on this bed.
The owner told me she purchased 4 plus years ago.
It's a discontinued Simmons Beautyrest Silver Hybrid King size bed.
Do you have any thoughts on a potential match for this out of production bed?
We went to a local store last weekend. But the Black and Harmony Lux Beautyrests didn’t feel good to us.
I’m glad I found your site and will happily buy a bed from you.
But we need it to feel just like the one we fell in love with from a comfort standpoint.
Thanks, Tom
Hi Tom,
You’re setting yourself up for disappointment when you’re expecting to buy a mattress with the exact same feel as the one, you’re asking about.
Even if that very same mattress were to be available, a new mattress will feel noticeably different from a 4-year-old mattress with the identical specifications.
Another factor is when that mattress was made…exactly.
4+ years can fall on either side of when Simmons was sold to investors.
That sale took place in 2016. And as of 2017, everything they make became much lower in quality.
Prior to the sale, Simmons used high density memory foam that was cured before being put in the mattress. The curing eliminated the off gassing of the toxic chemicals from which memory foam is made.
After 2017, the memory foam used is cheaper and produces toxic off gassing.
We had been selling Simmons up to that point, and stopped selling them after the sale. BTW, the same investment group that bought Simmons also bought Serta.
I wouldn’t recommend a Simmons mattress to anyone today.
The individually pocketed coil unit is what makes a Beautyrest so comfortable.
The coils move independently from one another, contouring to the shape of the body, maintaining the natural alignment of the spine.
The mattress I’m recommending uses that same type of coil system.
The coil count is higher. The gauge of wire is heavier and the steel used to make the coils is double tempered. Simmons has never tempered the steel they use.
The durability of these coils is far greater than those in any Beautyrest.
This particular mattress has a firm feel.
If you’re looking for a plush, softer feel, the best way to get that is by adding a soft latex mattress topper.
Pure, all natural latex is extremely high density and quality.
It provides surface comfort that is both, extraordinary and very long lasting.
What’s more, high quality latex will absorb your body weight, which further extends the life of the mattress.
The latex topper to get is the Suite Sleep Pure, Organic Latex Topper.
It’s available as soft and medium soft…2” or 3”.
The 2” provides a nice layer of comfort. The 3” provides a more luxurious feel.
You’ll love the quality of sleep you’ll get from this sleep system combination.
Just don’t expect it to feel exactly like the one you slept on at the rental unit.
