An awful lot has changed since 1952. In fact, almost everything has changed.
I was born in 1952...and I've changed quite a lot since then.
God took one look at what He had just created and said, "Never again!", and broke the mold.
The only thing that remains the same, in a Simmons Beautyrest mattress, is the individually pocketed coils.
In 1952, those mattresses were: two sided, button tufted, and upholstered with horse hair and cotton batting.
About 20 years later, the upholstery changed to polyurethane foam.
About 30 years later, they stopped using the button tufting.
About 50 years later, they began making them only one sided.
About 60 years later, Simmons was sold to an investment group, and they started using memory foam in some of their models....and now, all of their models.
About 65 years later, they switched to using all memory foam.
Today, there isn’t a Simmons Beautyrest mattress made, that will last for more than a few years, with the softer models lasting only a year or two.
And if you happen to be larger, heavier people, you’ll only get a few months out of them.
If you look online, at reviews for Simmons Beautyrest mattresses, you’ll see that they are no less than horrible.
You can blame most the decline in quality to the memory foam.
Memory foam is specially designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.
But because the memory foam returns when you get out of bed, it is highly unlikely to prevail in a warranty claim. You simply must buy new.
Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented.
It has created a boon for the industry and a nightmare for the consumer.
In fact, all of the name brands that you could once trust to make a quality mattress, have been sold to investors who are now using memory foam. Now not a one of them makes a mattress that's worth buying.
If you would like to buy a good quality, old fashioned, two-sided mattress that uses the individually pocketed coil system, and is upholstered with polyurethane foam...and containing No Memory Foam, let me suggest the Wolf Two-Sided Brolynn Mattress, which comes in 3 choices of comfort.
