Hi George,
The Avocado mattress isn’t made to hold up under a large man.
The coils are too weak, made of very thin gauge steel.
Avocado advertises a 1 year trial.
They won’t take them back, to their credit.
They say if you donate it, they’ll get refund your money.
Sleep on Latex uses junk latex made in China, where they mix it with clay.
It’s promoted as all natural, since clay is a natural material.
Even if you were to buy a high quality latex mattress, any all foam mattress does not provide the pushback support needed to properly support most backs.
Consumer Reports is clueless, when it comes to mattresses.
In fact, they published an issue, some years ago, where they said that the mattress industry was far too complicated for them to understand, so the offered no recommendations. They must have caught some flack for that bit of honesty.
Six months later, they published an issue with recommendations after interviewing 100 people in Denver. Their recommendations were horrible.
Since then, they haven’t improved very much...still not comprehending the complexities of the mattress industry.
Before buying anything, flip your mattress over and add your topper.
These one sided mattress are much firmer on the underside.
It may be all you need to do.
If you decide that a new mattress is necessary, then I recommend the mattress my wife and I sleep on at home. We are, each, over 200 lbs. and I have a myriad of back problems.
Despite all that, I sleep and wake without back pain on a mattress that is more than 5.5 years old and still in like new condition.
The coil count is higher than most. The coils are heavy and strong.
The upholstery is natural Talalay Latex (not made in China).
That mattress is the Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush.

Trying before you buy at a store is a total waste of time, these days.
Most stores are a sea of mattresses upholstered with memory foam.
Memory foam is highly deceptive, as it feels quite a bit different a month later.
Memory foam is THEE thing to avoid, as it is specifically designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing...not to mention the toxic off gassing from the chemicals used to make it.
Memory foam presents a health hazard, as well as being a lousy product.
All of the name brands have been sold to investors.
All are using memory foam to recoup their investment and enhance profits.
Brands like Simmons, Sealy, Serta and S&F that you could once trust to make a high quality mattress, no longer care about quality...just profits.
