Hi Pete,
Thank you, so much, for your site.
I’ve referenced it for a long time, but this is the first time I’ve seeked your advice.
Usual story, my husband and I have purchased many mattresses. It’s become a joke with my friends.
We find a mattress, it's great for a year and a half, or so, and then aches and pains galore.
So, our most recent mattress is a Purple 2. Loved, loved, loved it for the first year.
Then as with most plush toppers, it lost the comfort and support.
And now, the body impressions are very apparent.
My husband is 230lbs 5’11” I am 5’5” 200lbs. I sleep on my back for most of the night, always in one position. Occasionally, but not much, on my side due to hip bursitis. My husband is a side and back sleeper.
I recently purchased a Dunlop latex 3” topper. Nice and plush but I still feel the indentations.
I thought I liked a bit more firm than my hubby, but now I think my body aches want a little more plush.
Hubby likes plush. He’s also had some lower back problems.
In reading your advice to others, I am considering these 2 mattresses.
Can you tell me if I’m on the right path, or if there is something else, you’d recommend?
I prefer an innerspring with a soft top. So, the Greenspring Liberta Plush or the Ultra Plush appealed to me.
I thought the Plush would be a medium firm and I could add my latex topper or should we go for the Ultra Plush?
How can I tell if my foundation needs to be replaced?
As with most people who come to you, I’ve wasted a lot of money on mattresses and the BUCK has gotta stop here.
I look forward to your reply. Thank you for your time, Kimberly
Good Morning Kimberly,
Given your sizes, you can be assured that your current foundation is worn.
To what degree, is unknown.
However, If you were to buy a mattress and put it on your old foundation, you will immediately void the warranty of the mattress. That would be true of any mattress.
As you can see by the cost difference between the set and mattress only, you'll save little and risk much.
You are on the right path for your choice of mattress.
My wife and I are, very much, the same size as the two of you.
I have a great number of disc related back problems...diagnosed 18 years ago.
My wife has a sensitive hip.
We have the Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush at home.
Due to the high quality of the components, all of the Greenspring mattresses are firmer than their comfort designation make them sound...especially when compared to what you can normally find in stores.
Because it is not as soft as it sounds, we have added a 3" Plush Latex Topper for my wife's hip.
We've had that mattress for 5 years.
It is, still, in like new condition.
I sleep and wake without back pain.
I recommend the Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush mattress for you and your husband.

Use the latex topper, that you already own, on top.
The low profile 5" foundation is the one to get.
This mattress comes with white glove delivery, which includes set-up in your bedroom and removal of your old set..
Delivery is free and there's no sales tax.
While you wait for it to arrive, flip your mattress over and add the latex topper to that flip side.
