Serta Perfect Sleeper Mattress Sagging.

I came across your site and am impressed with all the info. 

I'm hoping you can give me some advice. 

We have a Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress that is deep, 16 inches including the pillowtop. 

It's a Queen, maybe 5 yrs old. 

The pillowtop and mattress are sagging and are just too soft for my husband and I. 

We do a lot of tossing and turning and wake up with sore shoulders, hips, backs. 

I am 135 lbs, husband is 210. You aren't supposed to flip these mattresses, as I am sure you know. 

Don't really want to buy a new one yet.

Do you have any recommendations for us? A topper? A firm one? Flip it anyway and use a topper? 

As I am getting older, (60), I am finding I think I need something firmer...Hope you can help!

Replacing Mattresses used on Bunk Boards.

Sciatica Back Pain on a New Stearns and Foster Hurston Mattress.

Hello Pete, 

I purchased a new Stearns and Foster Hurston mattress, early last month, along with the adjustable frame. 

I have sciatica, and it has gotten worse with this new mattress.   

The mattress is on the low end of firm and feels comfortable while sleeping.

But when I wake up, my back pain is so bad, I can barely move.  

Would you recommend I exchange it or simply buy a topper for better support?    

If a topper, what would you recommend?

Hi Suzanne,

I'm sorry you spent so much money on such a bad mattress.

We once had been a Sealy/S&F retailer.

We dropped both lines when Tempurpedic bought them, in 2013.

S&F had been "The Cadillac of the Industry" for many decades prior to this.

Today, with all of the memory foam used to upholster those mattresses, they are now nothing more than expensive junk.

And, your adjustable bed base is good for nothing more than sitting up.

It has no therapeutic value, and is counter productive when it comes to dealing with sciatica.

 

There's little point in trying to make a silk purse from a sow's ear.

Return it for a refund, if you can. Exchange it if you must.

That mattress is worthless...and especially so to anyone with disc related back problems.

Memory foam is the absolute worst upholstery material ever invented....a poor quality product that also off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it's made.

 

If you are stuck with an exchange only, send me the link to the store from where your bought it.

I'll help you pick out something better.

 

Also, sleep with the mattress flat.

The adjustability of the base does nothing to maintain your spine's natural alignment.

Spinal alignment is key to relieving sciatica pain.

Since you bought that mattress, Simmons was sold to an investment group.

In fact, all of the name brands have been sold.

All are now using memory foam to upholster their mattresses.

 

Memory foam is specifically designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.

The hotels wouldn’t put up with this nonsense. 

So, Simmons makes their Beautyrests for hotels with the same upholstery that is used in your mattress.

 

Buying through a hotel that has Beautyrest mattresses with NO memory foam in it, is the best you can do.

It will most closely match the materials used in your mattress.

I've rarely heard it said that the 3" can be too soft. The 2" is not too soft, by anyone's standards.
