A Mattress to Relieve Shoulder and Hip Pain.

Hi Derek,

Hanging on to a 25 year old boxspring is a mistake.

You'll save little and risk much.

Any mattress you use with a boxspring that old, will wear prematurely.

The warranty of any mattress you buy, to use with that boxspring, will be void immediately.

 

The Simmons Beautyrest must have a latex topper to keep it from wearing out within only a few years.

There is a better quality mattress that does not require a latex topper to keep it from wearing out quickly.

Thx for the reply Pete. 

I will replace the box spring.
What I would not be prone to do, is spend $2,600 on a new set. 

Looking at some older advice you provided, a beautyrest with a 2" topper was an OK option. 

The goal is to reduce shoulder/hip side sleep pain. 

I have not slept a night thru in 10 yrs. 

The question now is, which model of mattress to mate with a topper. 

Would a Simmons Beautyrest Brs900 do with one of your 2" latex toppers, or is there something else? Something better?
Given I'm 160lbs, would 2" be enough?

The reasons why you need a latex topper to go with the Simmons Beautyrest mattress are:

1) To overcome the effects of the memory foam upholstery in the mattress.

2) The steel, from which the coils are made, is raw...untempered.

The latex topper provides durability and longevity that the mattress doesn't have on it's own.

 

We carry a couple of better choices than the Simmons Beautyrest.

The least expensive is an old fashion two sided mattress, with a similar coil count and the steel is tempered.

There is no memory foam in this mattress and doesn't require the purchase of a latex topper.

Date of Manufacture on the Law Label, on the Mattress.

I just received a new mattress yesterday that says was manufactured 4 days ago.

To alter that tag, as you fear, would be a federal crime.

I’ve never heard of that ever being done.  

You have nothing to worry about, as far as that's concerned.

How to get a smell out of a Latex Mattress Topper.

Unfortunately my husband starting using a strong smelling back rub before coming to bed. 

Now, the smell has seeped into the latex. 

He had clothes on and the smell went through the clothes, the sheets, the mattress protector and into the latex. 

 

Any thoughts on how to get a smell out of a latex mattress topper?

Poor Fellow! Let's see if we can get him out of that doghouse.

First, try a dry product. Apply baking soda, let it sit all day, then vacuum it off before bed.

If a stronger solution is necessary, use a pet odor remover.

These mattresses are not available at any retail store.
Simmons Beautyrest mattresses, made for retail stores, are upholstered with memory foam, which is specially designed to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.

It's like stepping out of a time warp, to find that everything has changed.

22 years ago, it was nearly impossible to buy a bad mattress.

Today, quite the opposite is true.

This is the information I'll need to make a recommendation:

The ages, sizes (heights and weights), and a list of all physical ailments of the people who will be using the mattress.

It’s just me. I’m just north of 300, 6’2”, 45

My back isn’t bad but if I sleep wrong for several days in a row my hamstrings get ultra tight. 

It pulls my back and I’m out for the count until I see a chiropractor.  

I have sleep apnea.  Sleeping great is my favorite thing in the whole world so I love a very comfy bed.    

So, if I can get that kind of comfort with a bed that would last 5 to maybe 10 years I’d be grateful for your advice.

Today’s name brand mattresses don’t last long under average body weight.

For a big man, you need something stronger.

Since your mattress is only a couple/3 years old, it isn’t likely that you’ll need to replace your foundation.

 

I carry two comfortable mattresses at two price points.

The more expensive is better than the lesser expensive one.

But, both are a lot better than most mattresses sold at stores.

 

The biggest problem with most of today’s mattresses, is the memory foam.

Memory foam is about 20 years old and has proven to be the worst upholstery material ever invented.

It’s sole purpose is to cause a mattress to need frequent replacing.

All of the name brands have been sold to investors, who place profits above quality.

 

Your old mattress had no memory foam, which is why it lasted so long.

The key to a successful mattress purchase is in avoiding mattresses made with memory foam.

 

However, the mattresses I’m recommending are upholstered with latex.

Latex is and has been the highest quality upholstery material for the last 100 years.

Not only is the upholstery so much higher in quality, the coils are made of double tempered steel.

Together, they provide support, comfort and longevity...even under a big man.

Hi Charles,

You have two good options.

The first depends on if your flipped mattress relieves your back pain.

Flip your one sided mattress over, which will expose the firm side. Often, this will relieve your back pain.

If so, then you will need to soften the surface...which will not negate the underlying firm support.

You can add long term comfort with a Natural Talalay Latex Topper.

They only make an Eastern King.

 

Both king sizes have the same area.

Eastern King - 76” x 80”

Cal. King - 72” x 84”

 

The Cal. King has the advantage if:

you’re very tall

like to sleep stretched out, with you arms above your head

Have an animal who likes to sleep at the foot end of the mattress.

 

The Eastern King advantages:

elbow room

Both tend to show body impressions more easily than the smaller sizes.

And, you will tend to sleep with space between you..since you have the extra space.

Up the center of the mattress will remain like new, which creates a hump.

With the Eastern King, you can rotate the mattress 1/4 turn.

While not perfectly square, it’s close enough to pull it off.

 

Rotation of a new mattress aids in more ever wear, thus longer life.

The use of a waterproof mattress protector aids in longevity, as well.

Keeping the upholstery material clean and dry helps retard wear.

The most significant source of moisture is perspiration.

A Year Old Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Causing Back Pain.

It's the memory foam upholstery used in the Sealy Posturepedic mattresses that is causing your pain.

Memory foam allows you to sink too far, misaligning your spine, which causes back pain.

All of the name brands are upholstered with memory foam, which is why your previous mattress failed.

There is a remedy for this, that will give you another 5 years, (more or less), before having to bite the bullet for a new mattress.
