Hi Peter,
I'm still negotiating with the wife over mattress size. Queen or King. I am arguing king.
Any advice you can cite that king is better would be helpful.
I think we should sleep in separate rooms to optimize sleep...but that is not an option.
So, I am arguing king as a compromise....and then would we need a box spring.
You had recommended the Simmons Beautyrest Black Desiree Luxury Firm Mattress.
Also, what do you recommend for a full-size futon mattress?
We have a full-size futon that stinks.
It gets slept on 20 days/year by an 80-year-old man, and 15 days/year by a 50-year-old woman. Looking to get one before we host for Christmas.
Perhaps we will start with a futon mattress and "See how awesome Peter knows his stuff!".
This will help me with the big mattress purchase...that I will buy for myself for Christmas!
As always, thank you!
Hi Tom,
We carry a number of futon mattresses.
Shown here:
Wolf Futon Mattresses with several Color Options. The Wolf USF 8971 (USF-18) Futon mattress is an 8″ mattress with an individually wrapped coil unit as its core surrounded by Visco, memory foam and CertiPUR foam and then covered with Wolf’s own cotton batting.

The most supportive of them uses
an individually pocketed coil core.

Re: King or Queen size Mattress
There are pros and cons, concerning a king size mattress.
The obvious pro is the extra sleeping space...easier to find a comfortable position with disturbing your partner...easier to change position without doing a flip. This will be less disruptive to your sleep.
The cons are:
Since you tend to sleep further apart, the center remains like new, creating a hump up the middle of the mattress. However, this can be overcome with regular 1/4 rotation of the mattress. While not perfectly square, a king is close enough to square to pull this off.
The other con is more philosophical.
Sleeping further apart makes it easier to stay angry with one another if you’ve gone to bed without resolving an argument.
It’s more difficult to stay angry if you’re bumping butts all night long.
My experience goes back to when king size was reasonably new.
In those days, when a customer came into the store needing a mattress due to marital separation, I had gotten into the habit of asking what size mattress they had.
Oddly enough, almost all had been sleeping on a king size.
However, with king size being so prevalent these days, I’m not so inclined to blame it on the mattress.
My folks ended up in separate bedrooms for many years, before they passed.
But, they had physical differences.
Dad was thin and always cold. Mom wasn’t thin and always hot.
And, dad’s snoring didn’t help.
My wife and I have a king and do sleep better than when we’re visiting our daughter or staying in a hotel with a queen size mattress.
We, sometimes, experience temperature differences, due to menopause.
We resolve those with individual blankets and fans.
VERY IMPORTANT:
Keeping your mattress clean and dry will increase longevity.
Use our Organic Cotton Waterproof Mattress Protector.
Thanks, Pete
