While holding yourself with proper posture will certainly help, you have irreparable back damage.
The right mattress will provide you proper support and comfort.
This will allow you to sleep and wake with minimal to no pain...depending on the severity of your back damage.
Before making a recommendation, I need to know your height and weight...and that of whomever may be sharing the bed with you.

I am just under 5' 7" and weigh 155. My husband is just under 6 feet and about 170
I am 59. He is 63, with constant hip pain due to a rod he had inserted due hip fracture from a skiing accident.
The mattress we have doesn’t bother him at all!

My scoliosis is labeled functional, vs. congenital. It is improving at the top and is less rotating in the low Back .
I have a few low back bulging discs but they don’t hurt any longer.

The set was $999 less the $400 credit for returning a five year old rhapsody that didn’t work
I can’t imagine there would be much on the warranty now since it is 6 1/2 years old.
Plus, they add all kinds of fees which wash out the credit so I do want to cut the cord with that store.
I do not know if my mattress is “firm” or not.
It is a pillow top which I can see was not a good choice.
I have always heard firm was best but I’ve always been afraid of a too firm mattress not being comfortable.

Delivery is free and there’s no sales tax.
I also suggest you get, what is called, bed risers.
They are available on line, but less expensive at Big Lots.
Placed under the back legs of your bed frame, it provides a tilt that will make breathing easier. Once in place, you should be able to sleep without a cpap machine...and without getting poked. They are usually sold in sets of four, for only a few dollars.
