Hi Leigh,
Your first and most damaging mistake was to tell your salesman about your back surgery.
This is information, you shared with people who do not know what to do about it.
Most of today's mattress salespeople know little about the products they sell, let alone about how to match up a physical ailment.
You told him about it and assumed he'd know what mattress was best for you.
Salespeople are trained to appear knowledgeable....how to make you trust them, without actually having the knowledge worthy of that kind of trust.
To highlight this, that salesman has recommended A Simmons memory foam mattress to replace the Sealy memory foam mattress.
The first one didn't work and neither will the second...But, he doesn't know that.
It would be better to know what you want before you go shopping. You can research anything on-line.
It's clear that your back will require firm support. As a female side sleeper, you also need some cushioning to relieve the pressure at the hip.
What good is a cushy mattress when that padding compresses so quickly and easily?...as yours has.
Start with stronger mattress and add a layer of soft latex, which will not compress.
Latex is the highest quality upholstery material available. There is no substitute for quality.
And when you have a sensitive back, the sleep system you choose has to feel as it needs to years from now, as it is when new.
A latex plush topper provides surface comfort that remains like new for many years...and greatly extends the life of the mattress.
