Is there such a thing as a knockoff mattress?
Two years ago, my husband bought a Brand new Simmons Beautyrest mattress off Craigslist.
The seller said he was a wholesaler and got overstock mattresses from large companies, and that was why the price was only $800 for a king mattress.
These were over $2000 in stores.
It turned out to be the worst mattress we ever bought, and caused back pain we had never had in our lives, due to the lack of support.
We finally bought a new mattress. When moving that one out, I noticed how cheap the construction was on the bottom of the mattress.
The seams were unevenly stitched and coming apart, and the seam fabric was almost like thick paper.
It seemed odd for such a supposedly high quality expensive mattress.
Did we maybe buy a fake mattress?
There is no market for bootleg mattresses.
What you found, was a seller on Craig's List that lied through his teeth about everything. (No Surprise There!)
What you bought, was a "salvage" mattress.
Salvage bedding are the factory returns due to defect, which are loaded on trailers and sold by the trailer full for pennies on the dollar.
They are already defective and no bargain to anyone.
There are also physical stores, that pose as "Clearance Centers", that sell such mattresses.
