Need Advice Purchasing a Simmons Beautyrest Pacific Series Mattress.

I saw your website while I was googling for a certain type of mattress.  

We have some friends that we visit often and the bed we sleep on is fantastic!  

So, we asked them what was the mattress make and type they said it is a Queen Size Simmons Beautyrest - Recharge - Pacific Series.

 

We currently have a king size bed but are thinking of downsizing to a queen size bed.  So a couple of questions:

• On  your website you mentioned that this particular bed has been replaced by the Simmons Beautyrest Silver 1 Series. 
• We are in California in the “East Bay” which essentially is a few miles inland from Berkeley/Oakland do you deliver to California?
• Could you provide the prices for a queen mattress & box spring and a king size same type of mattress and box spring?
• If you do deliver what about hauling away the existing mattress and box spring do you offer that?

 

We are definitely in the market for a new bed, so we are serious shoppers.

Hi Bob,

Your friends have an older model Beautyrest.

The name "Recharge" was used for their Classic and World Class models.

"Recharge" was more commonly used with their Classic models, which then became the Silver Series.

However, the "Pacific Series" was the west coast name for the World Class Series, which is now the "Platinum Series".

 

Simmons makes these mattresses in a wide variety of comfort levels.

If you research, online, you'll find that the reviews for Simmons Beautyrest are no less than horrible.

The reason why they are so bad, is dues to all the "Plush" and "Pillowtop" models that are sold.

Their plush models use a very thin wire for the coils, and the first thing to show wear is the pillowtops.

The pillowtops begin to show wear, almost immediately. The plush models don't last more than a year or two.

For this reason, we do not carry any of those models on our website.

 

Depending on how old the mattress is, at your friend's house, that mattress could possibly have no memory foam in it.

Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented...sleeping hot and losing its resiliency quickly.

All of today's Simmons Beautyrest mattresses are upholstered with memory foam.

Since Simmons was sold to an investment group, as have all the major brands, memory foam is used to increase profit by decreasing quality.

 

I tell you all of this, to save you from making a purchase that will disappoint you.

The value of a Simmons Beautyrest mattress is in the pre-compressed, individually pocketed coil system.

The pre-compression of the coils provides pushback support against your spine.

The individually pocketed coil move independently from one another, providing contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of your spine.

THIS, is what provides that great night's sleep.

But, if it only lasts for a couple of years, what good is it?

Mattress Recommendation Similar to the Stearns and Foster Bruno Clair.

I purchased a Nolah king size mattress, this past May, with a 120 day risk free trial.   

Today was the 120th day and I just requested the return.

As much as I wanted to love the mattress and the adjustable base, I wake up in pain all over.  

 

I recently went on vacation, and slept on a regular spring mattress, that I absolutely loved.  

It was a Stearns and Foster Bruno Clair mattress. (my google search of this mattress is what led me to your blog and website). 

I really wanted to buy this mattress, but found it was discontinued.  

 

I would like to keep my adjustable base, but I don't want another memory foam bed, as it has no bounce and no push back.

 

I do have bursitis in my hip and shoulder that flares on occasion for sometimes months at a time.   

I thought the Nolah would relieve the pressure points, and while it took the pressure off my hip, my back and even legs have never felt worse. 

I never had a back or leg problem before. 

 

So, I'm looking for recommendations. I'm 5'8, 175 lbs with some bursitis issues.   

I loved that Bruno Clair but can't get it.  Can you recommend a mattress that might be right for me? 

Either a spring similar to Bruno Clair, where I assume I won't be able to use my adjustable base, or a mattress I can use with my adjustable base with.

One that has bounce and push back?

When that Bruno Clair Stearns & Foster mattress was made, this was a legitimate industry.

Manufacturers competed with one another to make a better mattress.

Retailers competed with one another to bring those mattresses to you at a better price.

All of the name brands could be trusted to provide quality, with S&F among the best of them.

In fact, S&F had been considered "The Cadillac of the Industry" for many decades.

 

Those days are long gone....starting around the turn of the century.

Memory foam was introduced a couple years before. Name brand mattresses went from being two sided to one sided, a couple years after.

As the years went by, the name brands began adding memory foam to some of their mattresses.

Later, all of the name brands were sold to investors, who use memory foam to increase profit and recoup their investment.

 

As it became clear that there was lots of money to be made, in this industry, new brands sprang up...like your Nolah mattress.

Every one of them claimed a product that was the latest greatest thing...claiming "State of the Art" technology.

One line of BS after another produced interest from people, like you, who fell into all the hype.

(That was not a personal attack. You are but one of millions who have been taken in by all that hype.)

 

All of the name brands, once sold, became companies making products that need frequent replacing...thanks to all the memory foam.

Sealy/S&F was purchased by Tempurpedic in 2013. By January of 2014, S&F went from "The Best" to being nothing more than expensive junk.

As a Sealy/S&F retailer, I was greatly disappointed. We dropped both lines and went shopping at the trade shows for something better.

 

Good quality wasn't easy to find. You'd be amazed at all the new brands that popped up...all promoting memory foam.

We did find some that suited my desire for quality. 

One, was The Wolf Company...which turned out to be the oldest mattress manufacturer in the country, that has been owned and operated by the same family...since 1873. They make a good quality mattress, but nothing like the quality of those old S&F mattress.

The best, we've encountered, is an old brand from Canada..."Natura".

 

My wife and I have been sleeping on a Natura of Canada Greenspring mattress for the last 3+ years.

We are heavier than you. My wife with a sensitive hip and me with lots of disc related back problems.

We sleep without pain, and this mattress is STILL in like new condition.

I grew up on a S&F mattress.

Later in life, I became a S&F retailer, and had the very same mattress in your photo.

I love selling quality.

 

But then, S&F was purchased by Tempurpedic.

As of 2014, every S&F mattress is loaded with Tempurpedic’s memory foam.

And in the blink of an eye, S&F went from being “The Cadillac of the Industry”,

(A distinction it held for many decades), to being nothing more than expensive junk.

 

We stopped selling that line, at that time.

There are no good S&F mattresses to be had...not for the last few years.

 

And while I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, it’s better that you hear it from me, than learn it for yourself. 

I hate to see people throw their money away.

A Mattress from "The Dump"?

As far as I know, The Dump does not sell used merchandise.

However, the mattresses they have are memory foam mattresses.

It's less a question of 'where to buy', as it is 'what to buy'.

 

With the mattress industry having gone bad...steadily reducing in quality over the last 15 years, it's all about avoiding memory foam.

Memory foam is the worst upholstery material ever invented. 

Not only does it perform poorly...sleeping hot and needing frequent replacing...it off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it's made.

Not only is it a loust product, it's a health hazard...adding insult to injury.

 

Stay out of The Dump and away from any mattress made with memory foam.

Two Sided Mattress for Heavy People.

A Similar Mattress to that at the Royal Pacific Hotel.

I don't know if your knowledge/expertise stretches to the uk. 

I have just returned from a holiday in Orlando and had the best nights' sleep at the royal pacific hotel. 

I have obtained the make of the mattress, but after research and reading your website, I note that this mattress is no longer available and mattresses from this company are not comparable. Do you have any knowledge of a similar mattress/similar specification that is available in the uk? 

It is only after experiencing a lovely night's sleep that I recognise that my mattress is awful! 

My knowledge of coils and springs, soft, medium, firm, latex, wool or foam is limited in this area. 

I thought I liked a soft mattress, as I have a mattress topper on my present bed. But maybe I am confusing this with comfortable. 

I don't know if the royal pacific mattress was soft or firm or what.. it was just extremely comfortable.

The materials used in name brand mattresses can vary, depending on the country in which they are made.

I can tell you that hotels are now getting better quality mattresses from the name brands in the US, than the quality they are making for retail stores.

There is little to no memory foam used in many of the hotel mattresses, while the retail floors are a sea of mattresses loaded with memory foam.

Memory foam is thee worst upholstery material ever invented...contrary to the hype from the ads and the sales pitches.

 

People living in the US, can buy directly from the hotel.

What you'll look for is a mattress using an individually pocketed coil system.

The best upholstery material has always been latex, but polyurethane foam isn't bad.

Avoid buying any mattress upholstered with memory foam, and you'll have made a successful purchase.

That was not the answer I wanted to hear, but thank you for your help in saving my time.

Is there anything near a second best or what would you say is the best available today.

 

We have a Simmons Beautyrest in that room now, the one that they claim you can drop a bowling ball on and not spill a glass of water, LOL. 

That was not why we bought it, but we did not expect the comfort level to drop as fast as it has. A sag developed. 

It was a firm, which we really didn't want, but felt the firmer model would be stronger, so it would hold up longer....WRONG.

You have stepped out of, what can only be described as, a time warp.

That old S&F mattress was made at a time when manufacturers competed with one another to make a quality product.

Those days no longer exists...and haven't for quite some time.

Your old S&F mattress was one of the last great mattresses made by "The Cadillac of the Industry".

Today, S&F is nothing more than expensive junk.

 

S&F is not alone in this. All of the name brands have been sold...Sealy and S&F were purchased by Tempurpedic in 1013.

Simmons and Serta were bought by the same investment group.

All have loaded their mattresses with memory foam.

Memory foam is used for the express purpose of causing a mattress to need frequent replacing.

Despite all the hype to the contrary, memory foam is thee worst upholstery material ever invented.

Besides being a lousy product in terms of performance, it's also a health hazard...off gassing the toxic chemicals from which it's made.

(Adding injury to insult).

 

Your mistake was in assuming that a new mattress would be as good as your old one.

We used to be a Sealy/S&F retailer...exclusively. We dropped both lines when Tempurpedic bought them and turned them into junk mattresses.

We spent a good amount of time and effort at the trade shows, looking for high quality alternatives.

Over the years, we home tested a number of different mattresses...with varying results.

The one we have now, we like very much. It's 3 years old, now, and still like new....with each of us in the 225 lb. range.

I have lots of disc related back problems and my wife commonly suffers with hip pain.

For these last three years, our pains have been relieved, thanks to this mattress....The Natura of Canada Greenspring Ultra Plush.

Latex Mattress for use on an Adjustable Bed Base.
