Hi Linda,
I'm glad you found my blog before buying a new mattress.
You have something of quality that you would never be able to replicate with any of today's Simmons mattresses.
Being older and heavier, stay with the 2". It does a fine job of relieving pressure point pain.
The 3" is something we recommend for people, females mostly, who are small and petite.
In this case, more of a good thing is not better.
The 2" will keep your spine properly aligned.
