Hi Belinda,
What you are experiencing is common...especially so, for a king size.
The hump up the center represents padding that hasn't compressed because no body sleeps in the middle.
This is enhanced by the firm edges of the two boxsprings that run up the center of the bed.
The best way around this, is to set up your mattress sideways. A king is almost square, so you'll notice little difference in that respect.
When you have a king set sideways, the two boxspring run side to side instead of head to foot.
The two firmer edges are now supporting the heaviest part of your body.
My wife and I are large people and that is how we have our king set up.
We've been using it that way for more than a year and a half. It works much better that way.
Body impressions are the nature of the beast, so to speak. The poly and memory foams used, compress easily under the weight of an adult.
However, there is a way around this, as well.
Start with a reasonably firm mattress and add an EverEden All Natural 2" soft Talalay Latex topper for comfort.
The latex, even soft latex, is far more resilient than the paddings used in mattresses.
The soft latex will also do a great job of relieving the pain from your arthritis.
