I am confused on how to choose between the Natura Greenspring or the Simmons Beautyrest Mattress and Latex Topper.
I've read a lot of your blog posts about these two mattress choices, and would like to know how you come to recommend one over the other.
You recommend one for some and the other for others. How do you do that?
A mattress is a pressure sensitive item. So, body weight is a factor.
What complicates matters is that there's usually a man and a woman to accommodate.
And, more times than not, their needs are different.
Quite often, the man is larger.
Also as often, the woman has a sore hip or fibromyalgia.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Plush EuroTop is a higher quality choice over the Simmons Beautyrest/Latex Topper combination.
Along with that higher quality, comes a bit firmer feel.
Very often, it's a balancing act, on my part, weighing all the specifics about each person and coming up with the right choice that will satisfy both.
Sometimes the durability and extra longevity of the Natura wins out over the softer feel of the Simmons/Latex Topper...and sometimes, visa-versa.
For the men, there's usually a disc related back problem to consider.
The mattress I recommend has to solve everyone's problems.
The choice of one mattress over the other, is a question of doing that...first and foremost.
Next, comes the question of durability...and the extra value that goes with it.
Naturally, I'd like to see everyone do the best they can, in terms of durability.
But, what good is a mattress that lasts longer if you aren't comfortable.
Hence, the balancing act.
The major monkey wrench in all of this, is the women.
Unlike men, who are built in a straight line...for the most part, women are curvy.
And because for this, a sore hip is a very common complaint.
Both brands use an individually pocketed coil, but the Simmons coils aren't as strong...having more give than the coils in the Natura.
This is why you see so many recommendations for the Simmons/Latex Topper combo.
Then there's the really difficult cases, where the man has a severe back problem and weights 250+ pounds.
He's married to a woman who is all of 5'1" and weights 120...both, petite and wide at the hip.
He needs really firm support, while a greater depth of softness is what she needs at the surface.
It can get rather tricky.
However, the Simmons Beautyrest and latex topper combination provide good support and comfort...and, it lasts a decent number of years.
We home tested that, with each of us weighing about 225...her with a sore hip and me with plenty of disc problems in my back.
After the 4 years we tested it, it was in like new condition. Our son and his wife have had it for that last couple of years...still, like new.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring Plush EuroTop isn't quite as soft feeling, but will last twice as long.
We've been testing that mattress for the last year and a half....supportive, comfortable, and with no signs of wear.
The Natura of Canada Greenspring costs less than the Simmons Beautyrest/Latex topper combination.
You absolutely need a latex topper with a Simmons Beautyrest, or it simply won't wear well.
The Greenspring mattresses are upholstered with Talalay latex...requiring no separate purchase of a latex topper.
