Mattress for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Pain and Sleep Apnea on a tight budget.

I saw that you have had many inquiries as to the best types of mattresses for those who are suffering from fibromyalgia and or other chronic pain illnesses. 

I'd like to reach out to you and ask you for some information. I suffer from fibromyalgia and reflect sympathetic dystrophy and back damage from a huge accident. 

My husband has back pain and has bad sleep apnea.

I am 5'6" side sleeper, and hubby is 5'11 back and side and weighs about 230. 

In our 30 years of marriage he has been tired the entire time he never feels restored or rested and what's sad is he works a very physically labor intensive job. 

We're on a very limited income with myself not being able to work and my poor sweet husband works 60 hour weeks or more, just to get by. 

So, when we moved recently, we downsized to save a little bit of money on our mattress.

We don't even have a box Spring or a bed frame, so basically we have a mattress on the floor, which is horrible, as you can imagine. 

When we moved, we had the option to buy a used mattress, which people have suggested for me. 

But, you don't know what you're getting you don't know if there's any bugs, and you don't know if it's bad or broken down.

Anyway, we are sleeping on an air mattress on the floor.

 

This feels like a million to one shot, but to me it was worth trying to just ask if you had any recommendations, advice or suggestions.

We would be so grateful for anything help, at all, you may be able to provide.

Let's start from the bottom up.

To support a large man, you will need quality products...most important is the quality of the mattress.

The products that support the mattress, you can buy cheaply enough...so lets start with the foundation.

A steel bed frame is optional and not a necessary item.

A good foundation, (boxspring), you can get at Sam's Club or Costco at the lowest price I've seen anywhere...about $100 in queen.

They are simply made, but very strong.

You will need a foundation so that his sleep apnea can be addressed....which we will do first.

At the head of the foundation, (or under the back legs of the frame, if you opt to buy one), you'll add bed risers...like the ones shown in this link.

For a queen size, you should use 3...and you'll need 4 if the bed is a king.

Adding these to the head of the bed will give the mattress a tilt. You won't even notice to lay on, but he will breathe easier with them.

These are available on-line and at stores like Big Lots, Target and Walmart.

 

When it comes to the mattress, an individually pocketed coil unit will contour to the body and maintain the spine's natural alignment.

You'd be amazed at how well this relieves back pain.

There are many brands that off this type of coil unit, but it's also important to buy a mattress with NO Memory Foam in it.

Memory foam is the worst upholstery material available...specifically designed to require frequent replacing.

 

When you're on a tight budget, it's important that you don't waste the money you have. Memory foam is just that...a complete waste of money.

Unfortunately, most mattresses have memory foam in them...especially the name brands. So, you will need to avoid those.

 

My best mattress may not be in your budget, but will last a very long time...making it the least expensive when averaged over the many years you will have it.
