There are no good pillowtops, as it is the pillowtop that is the first thing to wear.
They provide initial comfort that is lost within a matter of months, due to the low resiliency upholstery materials used to fill them.
I suggest a reasonably firm mattress to support your spine and a removable pillowtop for surface comfort...
....one made of soft latex so that the comfort lasts as long as the mattress....in most cases, even longer.
$5000 is way too much to pay for most mattresses. Most, at that price, will fail in a year or two.
Most mattresses at that price, are fluff and profit....sizzle without the steak, as they used to say in the old days.
If you are looking to spend that kind of money, then at least get your money's worth.
Here is a link to the most expensive mattress that is extremely soft and expensively made...giving you plenty of both, sizzle and steak.
The softest on in that line that I do recommend is their "Beautiful" model...shown here:
That said, I was never the kind of salesman, (a name I hate being called), that looked to see how much money I could extract from my customers.
What with dad being an engineer, value for the dollar has always been my focus.
The type of mattress that we use at home, is the best we've tested over the years.
The softest of that type of mattress is their Plush Eurotop model...shown here:
If you are one for a super plushy surface, then you can always soften this, or any mattress, with that removable soft latex topper.
