Replacing a Carrington Chase Mason Knowles Pillowtop Mattress.

Hi Pete,

I have a Carrington Chase Mason Knowles pillowtop mattress that is about 9 years old and has become too soft, causing me back pain.

This was a top of the line model and cost quite a lot.

I prefer a firmer feel and would like your suggestion for a high quality mattress.

Hi Kevin,

The Carrington Chase Mason Knowles mattress was made by Sealy for Bassett Furniture stores.

It was the same as Sealy's SpringFree line, which is a latex mattress topped with poly foam.

All discontinued, now that Sealy is owned by Tempurpedic.

If you do, in fact, need a new mattress, The Natura Greenspring Liberty Plush Eurotop is the most comfortable of the 5 models in that line.

Based on what I hear from you, you have had a habit of going for the most expensive.

It's common to equate expense with quality, but it simply doesn't work that way.

High end mattresses get you more upholstery layers....usually a softer, more luxurious feel.

For someone looking for a firmer feel, top of the line is not the way to go.

 

In the case of Natura Greenspring, even the softest of them, (The Liberty Plush Eurotop), is not all that soft....due to the high quality of the components in their mattresses.

I would like to also point out the Liberty Ultra Plush, which is firmer, with more of a medium...not too firm, not too soft feel.

If you like a firmer feel, you may prefer that one.

If there is a female in the bed with you, I suggest sticking with the Liberty Plush Eurotop model. A woman's sensitive spot is at the hip. The extra cushioning will likely be necessary. 

These mattresses use a pocketed coil unit, which provides firm contouring support that maintains the natural alignment of the spine.

A side benefit, is not feeling each other move.

If you have any disc related back problems, this support is better than an all latex mattress, which does not provide the push back support needed for a damaged spine.

 

The steel, from which these coils are made, is double tempered for added resiliency and durability.

The upholstery is natural Talalay Latex....and contains NO Memory Foam.

The comfort and support are very long lasting.

But, before you buy anything, it is likely that you could get a number of more years from the mattress you have.

Even though it was made to be a one sided mattress, the underside is perfectly usable and considerably firmer than the top side.

First, flip your mattress and dress it as you normally would.

Tomorrow, you should wake with your back feeling better. 

If you find that to be fine for you, then you need do nothing else.

If you find it a bit stiff to sleep on comfortably, then you can add a 2" Soft Talalay Latex topper to it.

This will soften the surface without sacrificing the underlying firm support.

You could get several more years out of it.
