The reason for the two different heights of foundations is so you can choose which height is more convenient for you.

The mattress is 13" thick.

Add the height of your bed frame.

Then choose the foundation. Normally, the low profile foundation is chosen...but not always.

 

Regardless of the height, the foundations are made the same.
