We currently have a 10 year old Sealy Posturepedic, which we have enjoyed.
We were interested in replacing it with another one like it. My husband called you, the other day.
He told me that you no longer carry Sealy because they are now owned by Tempurpedic and the mattresses are all loaded with memory foam.
We are not interested in a mattress with memory foam.
After reading you helpful blog, we would like to buy our new mattress from you.
My husband is 6' and 200 lbs. I am 5' 3" and 125 lbs.
We are in our 50s and have no physical ailments to consider.
What do you recommend for us?
Here is what I recommend for you...given everything you've told me.
Almost everything that Tempur/Sealy makes now, has lots of memory foam. However, they still make a few model without memory foam that they call "Classic Posturepedics".
And frankly, it seems a "no brainer" to stick with what you know works for you and has worked for you over the last 10 years.
Here is a link to a mattress that is, very much, the same as what you have now.
This same mattress in a firmer model and a soft latex topper added to it.
Latex is and has been thee best upholstery material for the last 100 years.
It's extremely comfortable and equally resilient...absorbing so much of your body weight, that a mattress that you use with it, will last far longer than the manufacturer intended.
Also, latex sleeps cool.
To that end, the mattress I recommend is the same one, but in a cushion firm...shown here:
The best mattress we have found, that we carry, is the Natura Greenspring...what we use at home.
It's a pocketed coil, very much like the Simmons Beautyrest...using the same barrel shaped pre-compressed coil system, where the coils move independently from one another.
The advantage to this type of coil, is that it maintains the natural alignment of your spine.
The Natura Greenspring coils are twice tempered, while the Beautyrest coils are not tempered...making the Natura Greenspring coils much stronger...keeping their shape better and longer.
More importantly, these mattresses are upholstered with natural Talalay Latex and contain No Memeory Foam.
Because the components are of higher quality, the mattresses are firmer than the descriptions imply.
The most comfortable, which are still plenty firm, are the Plush EuroTop and the Ultra Plush models.
My wife and I, around 225 each, have the ultra plush. Even so, with my wife's sore hip, we added a 2" soft Talalay latex topper for more surface softness.
But, unlike the Simmons Beautyrest, the latex topper isn't needed for the sake of longevity.
Those mattresses, shown here:
Since the two of you have such a large difference in weight, for the sake of having your mattress wear more evenly, and lasting longer as a result, it will be important to rotate your mattress frequently.
The rule of thumb for that is: Once a month for the first year...once every 3 months thereafter.
Please, let me know if you or your husband have any further question.
