Moving a Simmons Beautyrest Hybrid Mattress.

Hello Peter,

I've read a lot of hearsay concerning moving our type of mattress. It's a Simmons Beautyrest King Hybrid, firm type of mattress (exact model I can't access at the moment).
We're trying to be as frugal as possible in moving from Boston to Los Angeles, and with the size shipping container we are getting the mattress can only be stored on its side. 

Lots of things say that it can damage the mattress to move it on its side, however I have also read that if it is boxed up properly (structured) it can be transported on its side as long as it is for a short time? 

Forgive me if you have answered this before, I tried searching your site but couldn't find this exact issue.
The shipping will be about a week in transit, so I'm wondering if this is a short enough time for the mattress to be on its side without damage?

What would you say is the max? Two weeks or keeping it to one?

Hi Dean,

The problem has always  been the way their stored in stores.

Wrapped only in a bag and stored on edge for a month or more.

They tend to tilt, not straight up and down, which causes the the coils to lean to one side.

 

Bag and box your mattress and strap it to the wall of the truck, so that it rides nice and straight.

One, two weeks...it'll be just fine.

Hi Curt,
There's no excuse for improper storage by a retailer nor improper handling by their delivery people.
As a consumer, you should not be expected to accept damaged merchandise that was purchased as new.

We had a Beautyrest Hybrid mattress delivered on Monday. It was transported from the store to our home on its side. One side has a dent and ripple yet in the memory foam and side ridge. How long should I expect for this to correct itself?
