Simmons Beautyrest World Class Mattress with an Ever Eden Latex Topper.

Hi Pete, 

I should have listened to you a few years ago. I was between 2 Sealy all foam mattresses. I selected the thicker one and you cautioned against that. You were right. The mattress failed. 
I am now ready to return to an innerspring mattress. I am 57 and generally a side sleeper, about 5'11", 177 lbs and stay in shape. 

I first went to Bloomingdales and liked the Stearns and Foster Ultra Firm when I saw it the first time. 

I went back a few weeks later and it seemed too firm and I didn't like it as much. I didn't see on the floor the Simmons Beautyrest World Class in Luxury Firm. 

I went to the large chain retailers, and after going through the S&F Lux Estate and Estate mattresses, some of which felt fine on my side, made me feel I was sinking too much when I went to my back. 

I then came to a Simmons model...which I believe is the equivalent of your Santorini. I have read on your blog your enthusiastic recommendation of the Santorini mode with a 2" Latex topper...for heavy-set folks. 

So, for my height and weight, do you have any recommendations?

Hi James,
The latex topper is an important part of today's sleep system. Today's mattresses, on their own, don't hold up very long. They are designed to be replaced every few years. 

And while the firmer ones wear better than the softer ones do, the addition of a latex topper will double the expected life of any mattress. 

The latex will absorb much of your body weight, and the mattress works far less than it would without it. The end result is long lasting support and comfort.
The Simmons Beautyrest World Class Santorini in Luxury Firm is an excellent buy and one of the best values on the market. It will be all you need when adding the latex topper. 
Normally, folks will add an Ever-Eden all natural 2" of soft Talalay latex topper to achieve surface comfort that a plush mattress would have. 

However, it sounds as though you are leaning more to a firmer feel. The Ever Eden 2" Vytex Dunlop topper will provide that firmer feel, without feeling hard.
