Simmons Black Beautyrest Mattress & Latex Topper for Shoulder & Back Pain.

Hi Pete, 

My husband and I are in the market for a new king size bed. He broke his back 5 years ago and also has an old shoulder injury. I have lower back trouble. 

He is 6'3 220 lbs, I am 5'2 110 lbs. We are both side sleepers. He tells me he doesn't look forward to going to sleep because he wakes up in so much pain. 

Looking at the S&F line or a Simmons black. Also, don't want anything that would sleep hot. Any advice you can offer would be much appreciated!

Hi Kim,

Memory foam is what sleeps hot. S&F is now owned by Tempurpedic and all of their mattresses are loaded with memory foam.

Your husband is going to require firmer support than either of you will find comfortable. Simply getting a firm mattress with a soft top won't do, because the materials used to soften most mattresses won't hold up.

The solution is to add a 2" layer of soft latex to the top of a firm mattress.

Hi Chris,
"Encore" is a name used at hotels. You can buy them through hotels, but you'll pay twice what they cost at retail.
At retail stores, the model name for a comparable mattress will be different at every store.
The best way to shop for it, is to 1) Ask for a Classic Posturepedic & 2) ask for it the way Sealy identifies it...by the level they give it.
In this case, you'll ask for a Level A-3 Posturepedic in a Plush Pillowtop.
Mattresses come from the factory with a paper label denizened to the side...with that information.
If that label has been removed, I'd be leery to believe that the salesman knows...as they are told very little...other than how to close the sale.
You may have to ask to speak to a manager, who should have that info on spec sheets in his office.
We stopped carrying Sealy/S&F since they were bought by Tempurpedic in 2013.
However, I do have a friend in the business that carries that model.

Wolf Latex Hybrid Adrian full size mattress for my 3 year old son.

Stearns and Foster Mattress Sleeping HOT!

Hi Mary,

You don't have recourse with Stearns & Foster, but there is something you can do.

The heat you're feeling is from memory foam in the mattress, the fabric's fire retardant backing, or both.

Regardless of which it is, you can relieve yourself from the heat by insulating yourself from those materials with an all natural, cool sleeping latex topper. 

In the bargain, you will add years of life to that mattress, which normally doesn't last very long.

Besides sleeping cool, latex is also far more resilient than the foams in the mattress...absorbing much of your body weight, which in turn, causes the mattress to last longer...much longer.

I'm sorry to be the one to tell you, you can't get what you want.

Sealy/S&F was purchased by Tempurpedic in 2013.

In January of 2014, the Stearns & Foster line changed dramatically.

Every model has lots of memory foam.

You will be so disappointed in anything you buy with that label.

They all got so bad, we stopped being a Sealy/S&F dealer at that time.

We can go over your best options when you return.
