Looking to buy a memory foam mattress?‏

Hi Rick,
Memory foam is the worst material ever produced for use in or as a mattress, regardless of where it's made. It's initial comfort and support is quickly lost...something you can feel within months of purchase. And, it off gasses the toxic chemiucals from which it's made.

Hi Flo,
If your mattress is in good condition, but just too firm for comfort, then a latex topper is all you'll need to give you the surface comfort you want.

Frankly, they don't make mattresses as well as they had. Yours will last for many more years, with just the latex topper added.
Unlike other types of foams, latex is all natural and extremely long lasting.
The topper to get is the 2" soft talalay.

The Elsmere will have a different model name at every store.

However, there is only one "Ultimate Firm" World Class model, so shop for it that way.

The easiest way to find a retailer near you who has that mattress, is through a Google search.

Dear Pete,

I've done some more research, as you suggested. That has caused me to ask more questions....I'm still somewhat confused. I was hoping you could help me clarify what some of the Simmons terms mean, as well as a few other things that I have thought of.  So, here I go....if you can take the time to answer them, I'd appreciate it so much.

What do the following terms mean in the Beautyrest mattresses?

Hybrid

Recharge

Luxury firm

Black (as in a particular line or style)

 

What is the advantage of having a pillowtop? If it's better, what's the best kind to get?

Is the Beautyrest World Class York Harbor ultra firm equivalent to the Elsmere style?

What is the best kind of (box springs?) (foam) to get with one of these mattresses? Since we are both overweight, should we use the existing frame on our bed or get a Simmons frame that sits closer to the floor that would better support the weight?

Also, I really have a hard time getting into a higher elevated bed, as they are these days. I need a regular (old-fashioned) bed height so I don't feel like I am climbing up into the bed.....one where I can sit on the edge. I'm 5'2" tall. Would that be a function of the height of the metal frame?

I found some of these mattresses on the website for Sears, which would allow us to go into the store and lie down on them. We are both overweight, so we need that support. I just want to know what we should look for before we get some sort of sales pitch.

Hybrid is a relatively new term. It's a combination of two things...and those two things could be different from brand to brand.

We carry hybrids that are coils and latex. From Simmons, it's coils and memory foam.

Recharge is a marketing term. Meaning that's how you're supposed to feel after sleeping on a Beautyrest....recharged.

Luxury Firm is a firmness designation...cushier than firm...the most comfortable of all the firm models.

The Black line is Simmons best Beautyrest...strongest, using a triple strand wire coil in every other row.

Pillowtops help make the sale. They are, initially, very comfortable. They are, also, the first part of the bed to begin to show wear...and that happens right away.

From a consumer standpoint, they are a terrible buy...terrible value. Do not buy a pillowtop mattress.

We don't even show those models on our website because they always end up in a service call.

We recommend using a soft talalay latex mattress topper instead, which provides extraordinary surface comfort that lasts for many years.

This same topper, we use at home on our luxury firm Beautyrest. The topper is 6 years old and still like new. The mattress is 4 years old and is also in like new condition...because of the latex topper.

Model names are different at every store.

The starting model World Class Santorini is available in an extra firm. This may be the comparable to York Harbor.

The only way to tell is to compare the specifications.

Get the specs for that mattress and compare them to the specs on our website. It's the only way to shop effectively.

We do not recommend pillowtop mattresses, as that will be the first thing to wear and lose it's shape.

For greater durability, greater comfort, and greater longevity, we suggest adding a 2" soft Talalay Latex mattress topper to the non-pillowtop version of whatever mattress you are considering.

We no longer sell Sealy nor Stearns & Foster, since they were purchased by Tempurpeic in 2013.

Latex topper for a Sealy Springfree Garden Vine mattress.

You would think that more of a good thing would be better.

What's we've found is that the 3" soft Talalay works best with petite people, who exert less pressure.

For large people, the greater depth of softness allows the heaviest parts of the body to sink in further, which in many cases, throws off the natural alignment of the spine.

So, for your husband, the 3" could easily create a problem, where we never have that problem with the 2".

The poly foam on top that compressed was 2" thick.

We have had 2 mattresses (Kingsdown, Beautyrest) in the last 11 years and neither has been satisfactory.

There is no comparison between what Sleep Tek has to offer and the Simmons Beautyrest.

They are made completely differently.

I like what Sleep Tek has to offer, using latex instead of the poly and memory foams used in the Beautyrests.

Natura Mattresses to Canada.

Would you recommend this one over one of their latex mattress? The money isn't really an issue, we were looking at a $3000 Kingsdown mattress before I really started to dig into what we were buying.
We've never owned anything other than an innerspring so I'm not sure how we'd enjoy a latex mattress.

I find that larger people with some sort of disc problem are the only group that do not fare well on an all latex mattress. For the vast majority of people, it's nothing short of fabulous...and, it remains fabulous for a very long time. 

While all natural latex is more expensive to buy, it's cheaper to use over the years.

Of the ones available from Natura, the Bourdolay Dual model provides a firmer feel on one side and a softer feel on the other...with neither being too firm nor too soft.

It strikes me as the ideal choice for you both.

However, the store where you bought it, the store who had that model name, should know the answer.

Memory foam is the worst material ever invented for use in a mattress.

It off gasses the toxic chemicals from which it's made....besides being the worst performing material available...losing its support and comfort within months of purchase...which you have found out the hard way. Unlike most stores, we carry high quality products that use all natural latex foam, which has been the best upholstery material available since the 1920s.

Unlike memory foam, it's resilient, comfortable and provides plenty of support. The latex products we carry have no chemicals, sleep cool and keeps its shape for may years....a true value item.

The Adrian model from The Wolf Company, uses a very firm coil unit for support and is upholstered with a 2" layer of natural, soft, resilient latex. No topper will be needed with this mattress.
