Hi Rebecca,
An awful lot has changed in the past 15 years. Your mattress is two sided, where you can flip it. Today's mattresses are one sided.
The coil system of the Simmons Beautyrest is largely unchanged. It is the independent movement of their individually pocketed coils that makes a Beautyrest such a comfortable mattress....contouring to the shape of your body and maintaining the natural alignment of your spine.
However, because you can't flip them, they tend to wear out sooner...aided by the memory foam and poly foams inside....to the tune of 5 years, at best.
Opt for a plush Beautyrest today, and you'd be lucky to get half of that.
My wife and I sleep on a Beautyrest...but in a luxury firm, not a plush. The firmer models use a heavier gauge wire for the coils and holds up much better than the plush.
Today's plush model Beautyrets present an almost certain warranty issue. That problem is so bad, that we don't even offer the plush models on our website.
And while I can take an order for any of them, I refuse to do so. Neither one of us needs the hassle that is sure to follow.
What we recommend, and what we use at home, is a luxury firm Beautyrest that is topped with a 2" soft latex topper....for the comfortable surface feel that you and my wife like so much.
Latex is the most resilient upholstery material available. Besides adding surface comfort that lasts for years, (Our latex topper is 6 years old and still like new), the latex topper will absorb much of your body weight, adding years of life to the mattress that it wouldn't have without it. Together, you can reasonably expect a good 10 years of use....value for your dollar.
