I'm looking for a new mattress sometime in the next 1-6 months. My husband travels quite a bit and is partial to hyatt regency, hyatt place and hyatt house because of the mattresses. For home we currently have two mattresses that are quite suspect, each have been moved several times, roughly 10-15 years old, with one recently folded in the corner of our nursery( and also full of splinters from being dragged across something). I should also mention that they both currently have new 4 inch memory foam pads. My husband requests a king size given the number of pillows used during my last pregnancy. During my last pregnancy I had a lot of low back and hip pain and hope that a new mattress may help alleviate some of that pain. Both my husband and I are generally non discriminatory sleepers-back, front, side, but I am limited to my side when pregnant. We are 5'6" to 5'10", have athletic builds and are both under 200lbs.
What do you suggest?
Please let me know if additional information would be helpful.

Hi Mairghread,
Memory foam consists of 61 different chemicals. Some of them are toxic and a couple of them are known carcinogens.
Besides being a health hazard, they don't work well. Memory foam is a temperature sensitive material that softens and sinks as it warms from the heat your body gives off.
From this repeated softening, it quickly loses its support. In a very short time, you'll sink through it as if it weren't even there. Besides being dangerous, it's worthless for the job you want it to do.
Here are some links to our blog, where you can educate yourself about that...and where you seem to be headed.

Since you have so much time before you need to buy, I suggest using a majority of that time in understanding about mattresses, what your body needs, what materials work and what materials don't work. You're already off to a very poor start.
Having purchased memory foam, it's obvious to me that you are following the hype. Continue to do so, and you will make an expensive and painful mistake.
There's little point in offering a recommendation until you have altered your mindset.
Thanks, Pete
