My husband and I have an OLD 1972 Sealy Extra Firm Imperial mattress and box spring set. We are in our 60's. He is 6' 245lbs, and I am 5'6" and 285lbs. My ribs feel like I have had an elephant sitting on me when I wake up. We just got our income tax money back and my husband said, "First, you go find out what\'s the best mattress we can buy." I think we will need to get new foundation too. What we have is not matching, It's from another Serta set we bought in 1995 at a "bargain bed mattress store". The mattress did not last. It had a foam layer on top the firm foundation, but after about 5 years, I moved it back to the guest room and took back our old mattress. Last summer I gave the newer mattress away and threw our original box springs in with it. He would like to spend $1500, but we actually have $2000 we can spend. I like the sound of the latex topper, but we do need a new mattress; something very firm for support. Do you have any recommendations within our budget? We are in a rural town in Ga. The nearest stores are in Dothan, AL, 35 miles from us. He wants to go shopping this weekend. Thank you! I thought if I have to I could put the memory foam on top until we can get the latex topper. Hi Debi,
We have an old fashioned type of mattress that we had made for this. It's a two-sided, flippable mattress that is quite firm and contains no memory foam.
These have been on the market for 5 years and with no complaints.
We field tested the Cameo plush model of this mattress with our daughter, 5 years ago. She is 6'1" and 300+ pounds.
This past Christmas, my wife and I visited and she gave up her bed to us. We slept on it for two night and the mattress was still, like new.
