Everything I know about mattresses I have learned from your website in the last couple
days -- thank you, thank you!
You've sold me on the benefits of latex, but, unfortunately, I'm on an extremely tight
budget and can only afford to spend a couple hundred dollars for a mattress (to put on
a full-size, slatted platform bed). A friend is selling a latex-topped sleep system that he
has used for two years and I'm considering buying it from him -- but I'd love to run it by
you, first: a 3" Natural Talalay Latex Comfort Layer 5.6lb density 32 ILD ($275 retail)
stacked on top of a 5" Poly-HD High Density LUX Foam Support Layer 50 ILD ($120 retail),
encased in a mattress pad. Do you think this is a suitable sleep system (for a side and
stomach sleeper in her 20s weighing 130 lbs), or would I be better off buying some
other kind of layer (or simply a cheap, firm mattress) to go underneath a latex topper?
Another way to put the question: what's the best sleep system I can achieve on a budget of
Thank you so much, in advance, for any thoughts you might have!
It's always nice to meet and help a fan.
There is nothing new at that price that wouldn't be a waste of the little money you have.
The mattress you asked about is a lot of mattress for the money. The latex alone is worth $400.
The base poly foam layer is quite firm and should hold up well.
That mattress should have a very firm feel...firmer than the average female side sleeper would like. But, it's a great buy at that price and it's easy enough to soften the surface if you need to.
That is the best you can do with the money you have.
