Thank you so much for your blog. I am desperate. I was diagnosed with Degenerative
Disc Disease over a
year ago that is getting worse. Not long after the diagnosis, we bought a memory foam
bed - that we replaced with another. First one was too soft; this one is too firm. We
tried a topper but it was too mushy. My back is getting worse, I have hip bursitis on
top of it. My physical therapist told me to stop coming because my Degenerative Disc Disease isn't getting
any better. I'm 5'7" and 140 pounds; my husband is 5'10" and 210 pounds. I prefer
sleeping on my side and can tolerate sleeping on my back if I wear a back support to
sleep in, but at this point I'll stand on my head if I could not be in pain. My husband
sleeps in all positions. What type of NEW mattress should we get? Thank you so much
for your help. Claire
Your back has gotten worse because you opted for a memory foam mattress. You couldn't have made a worse choice. Waterbeds and air mattresses are just as bad for you.
The Stearns & Foster Heidi in luxury firm will support you firmly, yet contour to you...maintaining your spine's natural alignment. Keeping your spine aligned is key to having your situation improve. To keep your new mattress staying like new and to add comfort for your hip, add a 2" soft talalay latex topper to the mattress.
