Hi, I am 5'4 and over 200 lbs, my husband is 5'9" and 180. WE
both have bad backs, he has bad shoulders, and I have a bad
hip. We bought a tempurpedic cloud, 2 years ago. Neither of us
like it. We both wake up with back pain, his shoulders are
hurting and my hip still hurts. We had a serta pillow top
before this and didn't like it, as it seems to put both of our
arms to sleep. I am 51 years old and he is 50, I sleep on my
stomach, or side, he sleeps in any position just trying to get
comfortible. Please help us decide on a
mattress, money isn't
the issue, just want comfort. Thank you
Hi Carla,
Comfort that lasts is the tricky part of buying a mattress. The industry has dialed back the quality of mattresses so that you'd be in the market to buy more frequently...selling more mattresses.
The only way around this is a firm mattress with a soft latex topper. The combination sleep system of mattress and topper is critical to long lasting comfort and support...so that you aren't back buying a mattress every couple of years.
Since you will need the topper, let me suggest a way around your problem that might just save you the price of a new mattress.
Your Tempurpedic has
memory foam on top of firm poly urethane foam. The memory foam is worthless, but you can flip your mattress over and sleep on the firm poly foam.
I would suggest that you do that as an interim solution for the sake of reducing your pain. The underside of the mattress is likely to be too firm to sleep on comfortably.
Add the soft latex topper to that and see if you still need a new mattress. You may find this solution will be good for a few more years. You can then use the topper on your next mattress. They last a long time.
Here is the link to the topper.
Also, here is a link to a mattress...the best made.
