We are looking for a new mattress and are overwhelmed by the possibilities. We would like to purchase a mattress that will last, but would like to keep it at $1000 or less for the mattress only. We are looking to purchase a king size or two twins pushed together if we can't agree on a mattress. My husband is 6ft and 220lbs and likes a firmer mattress. I am 5'4" and 139lbs and want as soft as possible. After reading some of your advice, I see you are not a fan of pillowtops for longevity though. We think maybe a Simmons or Sealy but are open to any suggestions. Thanks for any advice you can offer us.
Keeping it under $1000 will take you out of the 2 twin xl option, which is much more expensive than a king.
The key to getting everything you want is in using a latex topper. You would get a king mattress and two-twin xl latex toppers...one soft and one firmer.
For a good quality basic mattress to go under them, consider the Simmons Beautyrest Flatbrook in luxury firm or the Sealy Posturepedic Grass Leaf Plush...aka, E Level Plush
