A new bed frame for my new mattress?

I've always been curious, why do frames need to be replaced? Seems like
they're steel and would last for ages.

Hi Edith,
Like most other things, it depends on the quality.
There is only one frame made that you could probably leave in your will. It's made by Leggitt & Platt and is called "The Instamatic". 
Check to see if your frame is ok. If it "ain't broke" and has the proper center supports, there's no need to replace it.
Or, you just put your mattress on the floor, if you've a mind to. After 2 weeks of getting up and down from a mattress on the floor, you'll be amazed at how much stronger you'll feel. (Just waited 2 weeks for our adjustable bed base to arrive...that's how I know that.)
