Hi Peter, My Bedroom Saga (with capitals B&S!) have been going on since February 2009. Honestly, this is the worst home purchase item in the whole world! Briefly, I've been searching to find a firm bed. I've had some low level back problems due to aging but the inflammation is under control and I'm trying to keep up with exercises. Wish me luck as I approach my 70th birthday May 31. I ended up at Macy's last February buying a Simmons Beautyrest "Adrian" full-size with a plush top and low-profile boxspring. (I am told that model is now discontinued.) The store delivered a queen size, and we refused deliver. It was a simple mistake made by a new salesman. They took it back. Now we had to wait until mid-March while they made a new bed. When it finally came, it felt alright for a couple of weeks. Then I began to feel as if it was as soft as the old bed gave up!! Macy's offered to take the new bed back (30 day comfort guarantee), but had a March vacation and I couldn't really give them an answer. Finally, on May 11, I broke down in tears and told my husband, "This bed is terrible to sleep on and I want it out of here." Fast forward to today. The store manager agreed to waive the restocking fee and pick up charged. They want me to be happy, so off we went to Macy's again. We have ordered the Sealy Posturepedic "Loring Park" firm mattress with only a Memory Foam Layer in a full size. The price was a wash because I had a $100 gift certificate, discount for signing up with a Macy's card, and other spiffs for my trouble. I think they will put $50 or so back in my account. Now I read your response to someone else that the Loring Park is a good bed. But then you said that memory foam doesn't last and it's just highly advertised, etc., plus the fact that it feels different in the store than it does in a home environment. Wonderful... You also mentioned to that other person that they might get a "cushion firm", but the only bed that Macy's offers and which was shown to me today was the Sealy Posturepedic "Hidden Meadow" cushion firm with memory foam AND latex layers. That would be about $150.00 more. Do you possibly have any opinion on which way to go? If I contacted them tomorrow Memorial Day, May 25 or even May 26, I guess I could change the order. Ye Gods and little fishes, you are the only person I've found on the Internet who does this kind of service. Bless you for your help to those of us who are just looking for a good night's sleep. Cordially, Ellen in Oregon
Hi Ellen. The Loring Park is a good choice. The memory foam in that mattress is only under the hip and not very thick. It shouldn't cause you any issue. The Signature models have quite a bit of padding in them and you would be further from the coil support. The cushion firm will be a little softer than the firm, but you could always add a topper to the surface of your mattress if you need a little cushion. This way, you can have more control of the padding.
